Does anyone's DC have an I Pod touch and does it have parental controls on?

Have got one for DC's birthday. I don't really know much about them re internet access. Can I put some kind of lock on to stop him accessing the wrong stuff?

Ds has one and I remember when setting it up you can select age bands to restrict content as per film ratings... Can remember exactly how but google it for step by step guide

Yes you can set restrictions - go to the Settings menu and it is easy. You can block internet altogether, set age restrictions re youtube etc and protect all settings with a code so DC cannot change them behind your back!!

Yes, it has quite good parental controls.

In settings - general - restrictions

With passcode. Just don't use your birthday, or they might knack it.

I haven't yet (they're 12 and 10) because at the moment 9and I stress moment :o) I trust them not to be searching for stuff. If they were going to they'd be doing it on the PC or laptop, both of which do have parental controls on. Currently they are only interested in teh apps on the iTouches - I'm not entirely sure they've twigged you can access the internet and it can't play the games they like to play anyway.

I would recommend disabling In App Purchases if it is linked to your iTunes account and strongly recommend installing/setting up Find My iPod/iPhone.

FFS, Im dreading this stuff. Mine are only 4 & 1.

I was once sitting on the beach with DH and DS.
A group of boys who were aged, maybe 10ish, well dressed, well spoken, well behaved were standing close by.

They were talking quietly to each other but we could hear them. They were disgusing how they had seen people having sex with animals on the internet.

One real baby faced one was asking how to see it and the others were telling him how to 'unlock' and then what to search.

They were so nieve that one then went on to say how he had seen 2 lamas having sex at a local farm and they were all innocently giggling at that too.

It's just shocking that they can have this kind of visual at that age.
They could easily see child porn growing up when their own hormones are raging and confused about sex as it is. It's so dangerous it doesn't bare thinking about.

I think there will be alot of nieve parents who will automatically believe that their kids won't access or see or even want to see this stuff but they will.

If you are being sensible and locking everything, who's to say their friends parents are? They might not realise.

Now the thought of them having little I-pods with internet access???

So even if Im sensible and have no computers in their rooms, lock everything and check everything, my kids friends will have the internet with them in their school bags/pockets?

We have never brought a generation up with this kind of stuff available before. I wonder what effect it will have on their sexual health/minds growing up.

Scary. Im not annoyed with anyone here obviously. Im not at this stage yet and I don't know how the hell im going to deal with it. I can't magic this stuff away. It's just scary that you also have to worry if other parents will be sensible and open minded enough to see that kids will look at this out of innocent curiousity.

If I was 12 and I heard I could look at people having sex with animals would I look - Hell yes, everyone else was talking about it, my nose would be totally bothering me as to what this was all about!

Good to know there are some parental controls available, thanks all.
Must admit I am a bit nervous about his access to internet, but he has used pc before and we have stuff on that that tracks his movements. So far all he seems to do on it is play football games and create fantasy footie stuff.
Seems only really intersted in games on his cousins ipod, so am not overly worried. Also, cos it's so fragile he'll only be allowed to play on it in the house with one of us present.
