Still will not poo in toilet

DD has been dry for about 5mths but will not poo in toilet. In fact has got worse over the last while. She smiles sweetly and says "poo in pants mummy, sorry". She is 25mths.

Have tried to bribe her with a chocolate button if she does poo in toilet but still no joy.

Any ideas?

am just impressed that you managed to potty train so early! my dd is 3 next week and has only just gone on potty, but iwll not poo in it at all, insists on a pull up for that

My ds3 has been potty trained for 2 and a half months now (he is 2 years and 8 months old) and he still does more poos in his pants than in the potty. It is very frustrating but I try not to worry about it as he is younger than my other children were when I potty trained them. I have done the bribery thing with chocolate too. The annoying thing is, I usually find he has gone into a quiet corner when he poos, so I am sure he doesn know when it is coming. Other times, he goes to the potty 2 or 3 times in quick succession and wees a little and then a poo comes out. I suppose it is something that is just going to take time.

Not sure if that is any help to you, but I do think your dd is still quite young to be potty trained so I don't think you need worry about her too much. It will come. Do you know roughly when she will poo each day? It can help to be more vigilant at those times in the hope of catching the poo "by chance".

Thanks for answering.

She does poo at roughly the same time so I do watch out for it although she does tend to go to a quiet place or does it in her pull ups when she has her afternoon nap.

She has had some bad experiences with using the toilet because she struggled pooing and it was stuck, she even bled a little although she hasn't had that happen for a while.

Oh I have experience of that too! My dd had an anal fissure followed by chronic constipation which lasted about 18 months I held off potty training her until she was completely over it as I didn't want her to associate the potty with pain. You do have my sympathy as it is so hard for them to overcome their fear of pooing. Dd got there in the end though. Have you considered trying to make her poo as loose as possible so that she doesn't have to strain at all to go (or would that just mean unbearably messy pants?) Nightmare, isn't it?

Thanks lonelymum. She definately has no problem with them being too hard just now - the opposite in fact.

I will just keep asking her and bribing her I think.

When she has done it in the past she has had lots of praise and has told everyone in the family and everyone made a fuss but it doesn't last.
