Can I honestly justify this amount of money?

DS1 is 9 next week. Is desperate for an ipod touch as his older cousin has one and he thinks it's fantastic, although he only wants it play the games on.
Have searched on net and basic price seems to be around £180.

I just don't know if I can justify spending this much on one thing for a 9 year old.

Has anyone else spent this much on one for their DC and was it worth it. Don't want to find it shoved in a drawer after a month when he gets bored with it.

The 8gb has dropped in price this week to £154, on Amazon but its back up to £161. Also think it was £154 in Dixons it keeps going in and out of stock. Its definately dropping, keep an eye on tescos they often follow and then you get the points.
You can tell i'm watching as my soon to be 9 year old ds also wants one, he has been using mine. They are fab and your ds will be able to facetime with his cousin.

I can justify it with some of the fab educational apps aimed at this age group.

Thing is, his cousin has a 3rd generation ipod, and the new one is going to be completely different, isn't it?

Have looked at 3rd generation. Foolishly thought they would be cheap now, but they seem more expensive than 4th generation...confusing.

Basically then, they are good value for money, even if they do cost an arm and a leg?

Mine love theirs, but I got a few family members to chip in for Xmas.
They are great, I'm on mine now Grin

You can get a refurbished one from Apple store, will be cheaper than buying new. MIL is getting a refurb iPad for her birthday from us.

Yes the 3rd Gen doesn't have facetime but he will soon have friends that do have, not sure if thats a good or bad thing, time will tell. but they are great, remember you can borrow it!
One thing I love is the radio app and i've bought a mini speaker so i can listen to the radio anywhere. they are great for checking emails quickly, the games are much cheaper than for a ds, fifa 11 is £2.99 i think.

Singing the refurb ipad 1's are almost the same as the new as ipad 2 is out on the 24th and the prices are coming down fast.

We got one for DS2 last year - joint with the grandparents. Yes, it's lasted - still used a lot. A very good buy - not just a silly gadget.

DH has one that the kids use. He says that the apps/games are 60p each and easy to buy/remove, so in comparison to a DS the machine is more expensive but then the running costs are much lower. Plus 'this' is the way technology is headed, I rememember my mum and dad getting me a commodore computer so I could practice writing programs Grin so the whole getting used to intuitive touch mechanisms rather than button=this happening is educational in itself. I think if I was buying one for my DC, they wouldn't get much else, and if that's want they wanted and they understood the money principles behind it (i.e. you can have 1x ipod or more presents) then I would go for it.

Thanks, think I'm going to have to give in and get him one.

Like the fact that games are so much cheaper.
