Does your baby ever sleep in the garden?

I was just wondering whether people left their babies sleeping in the pram in the garden on lovely days like these?

I left DC (7 months) out in the garden today after she fell asleep on the walk home from nursery - so am I in the minority? :)

I always let mine sleep out in the garden (unless it was foggy). They slept much better out there and not much point in disturbing them if they've nodded off on the way home from somewhere.

I did.
When my two fell asleep in the pram while walking home, I always left them in the garden until they woke up.
They were well wrapped up for the walk and the weather was nice.
It has apparently been proved to be excellent for their health as fresh air is important, even if they're too young to actively play in it.

I did this with DS (he is now a healthy 6 foot 21 year old). I had a cat net for the pram and used to put him out most days when he was tiny.
I didn't do it with DD, though. She was born 7 years after DS and people seemed to have stopped doing it.
I have seen a tv programme about nurseries in Sweden where the babies sleep out in all weathers. (How they do it in Sweden on teacher.net.tv)
Being outside does have positive health benefits.

definitely, dd1 spent first two months of her life sleeping in garden. dd2 more so now weather is getting better.

I used to leave mine outside the front door occassionally.

There was a link on here once to baby shelter things that looked like rabbit hutchs that they put babies in at nurseries in sweden

It looked very odd but was practical

I just find it easier if they have fallen asleep and we're only home for a short time. Also think it must be nice to be out in the fresh air - but all nice and warm.

Glad I'm not the only one.

It's the only place my DS would sleep, so he was out in all weathers including snow and gales. I don't know if it's connected but he's never been I'll (4 yrs old).

PeskyPiskie · 08/03/2011 19:31

ill not I'll

Baby DS naps in the garden all wrapped up in his pushchair with rain cover on. It is the only place he can sleep in peace where his older DD does not wake him up! We just park him next to the french doors so we can keep an eye on him.

SingingSands · 08/03/2011 19:38

I did, with both of mine. They did it at nursery too, cosied the babies up in big silver cross prams and let them nap in the fresh air! Lovely.

Exactly the same answer as RuthChan

OopsDoneItAgain · 08/03/2011 19:40

Yes, both of mine slept better outside...so I put them out in all sorts of weather, summer or winter. So long as they were well wrapped and not getting rained on it worked a treat.

EldonAve · 08/03/2011 19:44

Yes at my mom's
Not here in London though - too many foxes with no fear of humans

thisisyesterday · 08/03/2011 19:46

yep, almost every day! either ds2 or ds3 tend to fall asleep on the school run each day and i always leave them outside the front window

if it's cold i just leave the raincover on to protect from the wind a bit

AngelDog · 08/03/2011 21:48

I didn't, but outside my front door was the only option, and I needed a power supply for my baby monitor - and DS found it difficult to sleep in the pram. One of my friends gave her DS all his naps outdoors.
