Pop Princess CD

Hi

I was shocked this week when I saw the new 'Pop Princess' CD being advertised on CITV. I am very careful with the amount and content of what my daughter watches on TV. She only watches 3 of the the childrens channels 2 of them have no advertising this is the only one. I certainly don't let her watch the music channels as I am concerned about the way women are concerned in the music videos (she is 5 years old). As mentioned I was shocked when I saw this video of this CD which is obviously aimed at young girls with artists such as Rianna, Cheryl Cole and some admitedly not all wearing lacy underwear or similar. It's bad enough that is on during the day and I am more or less resigned to the fact that certain channels will show this during the day but I would not expect it of a channel that is aimed at 5 year olds!

Has anyone else seen the ad and have anything to add ???

I haven't seen the ad but bought the cd for 7yr old dd for Xmas, she loves it! Will look out for the ad tho!

DD1 (8) has the Pop Party CD which comes with a DVD, and has only watched the DVD once (accompanied by lots of wearily sarky comments from me about why is that singer wearing normal clothes but surrounded by girls in their underwear Hmm). I am happy for her to listen to the music, but tempted to lose the DVD tbh.

Hi

Thanks for the replies

Yes it does come with a DVD which is more worrying

I don't have an issue with the music or the CD itself as people have the right to choose what they buy for their children, particularly when they get older.

My issue is with the fact that the advertisers chose to aim such imagery at young girls and that a children's channel felt it appropriate to put the ad on alongside programmes aimed at young school children
