My Ds is 10 and will be 11 yrs in September.
I still aim for 8pm to head up to bed, and have now extended lights out to 8.30pm. Last night its was 8pm light out as he was very tired after two late nights at his Dads over the weekend.
I reckon this is fine.] this bed time is alright.
He still wakes up at 6.30ish am

Mine is 8 and lights out at 8:30 but it sometimes go on till 8:45 with reading etc. Sometimes when I think she looks worn out , I try and get her to bed a bit earlier. Apparently everyone else goes to bed later etc. Dd needs her sleep though

sorry dd is same age as yours and bedtime is 8 (sounds like I meant she was 8)..

My DS is 10 and goes to bed between 7:30 and 8. He gets to read until lights out at 8:30. He's allowed to stay up 'late' on Fridays and saturdays as a treat. this means 9, but he's in bed reading from around 8ish.

His dad has him in the holidays. He let's him stay up much later. They sleep in much longer too. He's always utterly exhausted when he comes home.

DD aged 10 goes up anytime from 7.30 (but that is rare), to 9.30 after guides, but usually about 8 - 8.15. Then she usually reads for 15-30 minutes. However, she tells me that ALL of her class go to bed later than her...

My DS goes to bed at 9pm and is usually fast asleep minutes later. He gets up about 7am.
We were struggling trying to stick to an 8pm bedtime for quite a while, he'd just mess about and stall for as long as poss. At 9pm he just accepts it and goes. It makes for a much less stressful bedtime in this house.
He's 10.

Mine goes to bed around 8.30-9, doesn't seem to need more sleep. But his 14yo sister goes to bed at the same time and she definitely needs that much. Imo it's about knowing the individual child.

DS is almost 10 and has been going at around 9.30 for a year or so. He has never needed as much sleep as other children his age but I would prefer he goes at 8.30, reads till 9 and then lights out. It is getting to be harder to get him up in the mornings.

Problem is DH lets him stay up and we watch TV together. DH only gets home at around 7.30 so by the time DH and I have had dinner etc we don't sit down till 8.30. Watch one TV programme and then bed.

IMHO i think for a 9yr old a bedtime of 9.30 is really late....could be tired at school all day (?)
Think i should get DS to read at bedtime and not watch a DVD.. however, if he is late like 8.35 then its lights out immediately.

I think 8.30 during the week and 9 at weekends.

I think it depends on the child Skifit. When DS was younger and all his friends were going at 7, he was going at 8/8.30 - any earlier and he was waking at 5am.

He is not tired at school. No problems there. I do agree that it is late though and I would prefer him to go earlier.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 08/03/2011 10:42

DS goes up to bed at 8.15, and reads until 8.45. He's sound-o by 9pm.

DD is 11 in July. School nights our routine is bed at 8, lights out 8.30. Usually wakes about 7 am. Weekends vary depending on what we're doing but usually 10'ish.
