Preparing for Interview - Sociology

Ok, so I've just heard that I have an interview date. I have applied for a part-time place on a sociology & social policy degree.

What do I need to know? How should I prepare? What should I read?

Does anybody have any tips or advice to offer?

ooo, where?

i didn't do a soc degree, but eventually went to social research msc. by that time i had enough life experience to have gained a number of opinions about society at large, and my complete fascination with the machinations Grin

it was very different to my first degree though. as a part timer are you planning on working alongside? (most of my course were) does the course dovetail with work? (lots of nhs/ educators often study soc alongside)

i knew very little when i pitched up, short of the fact that i was enthusiastic and passionate about the subject Grin and had a solid study background so wasn't a risk academically.

i'm not much help, am i? i talked about the research i wanted to do later. as it was a taught msc i suspect i was being a little premature, but they seemed to like it Grin

i'd say just be yourself and be very clear about where you are going, why you want to be on the course, and why you think it is important. if you have relevant rl experience, ladle it on.

thanks for the reassurance.

I'm not planning on working whilst studying but hope to continue with some unpaid work that I am quite passionate about. It's really because of this and also lots of very relevant life experiences that I want to do this particular course.

But this experience obviously doesn't cover all aspects of soc and I feel that they will want potential students to be able to demonstrate a wider interest of the subject as a whole.

So I'm wondering what reading would be good for this?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Nerves seem to be easier to forget when I can focus on something practical to do about it.

Will let you know how it went.
