reusable nappy suggestions for big (and very wet) toddler?

We switched to using disposable nappies a few months back with DS (now 2.6) as the tots bots bamboozles (aplix) we were using were needing only last 2 hours absolute max, and were really getting very tight.

DC2 is due in a few weeks, and I was thinking that since I'll be washing reusables again, it might be worth seeing if I can get a handful of secondhand reusables for DS to see us through until potty training (which will hopefully be in the next few months).

DS is TALL and BIG. A quick look at the charts suggests he's somewhere at the top end (91st percentile area) for weight and height, but I suspect he's a bit higher for weight as he's got a huge tummy still (although he is slowly slimming out into a more child shape instead of blob shape).

Any recommendations for nappies that come up large enough for a big toddler and with reasonable absorbancy? I'll probably keep using disposables on him for out and about (unless someone can recommend a BTP which I can use on new baby and DS), but I'd love to save on all the disposables while we're at home.

Thanks!

the Bumgenius V4 are supposed to be bigger than the v3 so that would be a BTP option but I haven't tried them on my toddler so can't vouch for the bigger fit personally. She is almost 3 and has been out of daytime nappies for ages now but still needs them at night. I used to use disposables for her at night but when I didn't need to wash her day nappies I started using them at night - a mega stuffed Wonderoo to start with. I would love to put her in a two parter but she objects and says it's too tight (just cos she's used to pocket nappies so isn't keen on wraps).Anyway I found some second hand Baby Beehind Magic Alls which are AIO but have a pocket. They are sized but I bought the large and they are HUGE! They have a microfibre pad inbuilt and come with a bamboo booster but I can stuff in a Flip stay dry insert and a Little lamb bamboo booster as well and still do it up easily.
This site has some here but I picked up 2 a couple of months ago on Cloth Nappy Tree for much less.

I have a 6 year old who isn't dry at nights, I bought some Motherease bedwetter pull ups (AIO) on ebay but resorted to disposibles after much leaking. Turns out it was me being daft, a good long detergent free wash and they were fine. Not sure if that's any help but they are very large, my boy is well over 4 foot tall and 4 stone +.

My toddler is 2 and 90+% on both height and weight. My DD was the same until she potty trained at 3.

For him I use wonderoo V1's stuffed with the wonderfuls double insert and a hemp booster. Can get 3-4 hours out of that depending on fluid intake. V2's are a bit trimmer but still do well, although with them being neater not sure they would fit your DS. Wonderoos were also what I used on my DD and they did her up to 3. I picked up a lot of my current ones pre-loved in really good condition for not too much.

I have an easyfit which does well, although super-boosted, and greenkids with the bamboo inserts are also fab although we do get builder bum with those because the rise is shorter.

All of the above are BTP, although I think most BTP nappies are only really good on 8/10lb+ depending on chubbiness of thighs Wink

Am finding though that 2 parters with a nice wrap are what I am reaching for more and more so that I can be certain of them and they last forever. BG Flips, Weehuggers and mother-ease are all generous fit and you can stuff them with just about anything - pocket inserts, prefolds etc. Added advantage that if they are not soiled you can just wipe down and replace inserts so saves the £££ too!

Don't bother with a BG V4, it really isn't much bigger than a V3 (if at all actually) but the old Wonderoo V1 is a good size, and the 'Wonderfull' insert is very good.

Though if he was wetting through a boosted Bamboozle even the WonderooV1 would probably not be enough to go an great length of time. I think I'd go for a seriously absorbent and boosted two parter, maybe a Bumhuggers by Ellas House or similar, www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/Bum_Huggers_by_Ellas_House.html , they come in XL toddler size too so should be big enough. Possibly hard to find secondhand though.

Thanks for all the ideas! I'll keep an eye out for any of those coming up second hand.

I'd forgotten we used to actually use a bumhugger on him for night times, and I think there was still a reasonable amount of room in it, so maybe I'll try that in the day and see how it goes.
