Starting swimming with my DD soon. Will be using huggies little swimmers but as she has really runny poo that escapes her own nappys every time I am terrified of mega leaks in the pool! How embarrassing would that be!!!!? I am just wondering if there is anyone out there who has had the same problem and if so, what waterproof swim nappy for over the liner did you find good?? I have bought one and am keeping my fingers crossed that it works (or preferably thta I don't need to find out!!) But if antone has a good recommendation I would be keen to know!!! Thanks!!

happy nappy swim nappy by Splash about is bombproof!
here our leisure centre has no hard and fast rules about what sort of swim nappy you use as long as you use one but most of the swim schools such as Waterbabies insist on the double nappy system - so a disposable or reusable insert with a happy nappy on top.
We have never had a leak with either DD1 or 2 in a splashabout happy nappy.

janmck1- does your DD poo in the bath?? Very few babies poo in water and normally you get some warning so you'd be able to get out in time. You do, of course, need a swim nappy but I wouldn't worry unnecessarily.

Those happy nappies look great. Wish I had known about them sooner. I use huggies but have never had her poo in the pool. She does/has pooed in the bath so I think I have just been lucky. She did poo in the huggies in the paddling pool last summer and I didn't notice until the poo started to come out watered down out of the top at her back so it definitely can come out. I think the happy nappy could be the way forward.

Agree with Smac...splashabout nappy + disposable is pretty foolproof. You can buy them second hand on eBay if you wish to save some dosh / try different sizes.

How do the Splash About nappies size up? Would you say to buy the same size as the DC takes in clothes? Will this give enough room for a disposable underneath?

Also, I'm not sure whether DD needs to wear a costume over the top. I'm clearly a terrible mummy. Blush

Thanks folks fo all your input! Firstly to answer NappyShedSal, she has only ever went once in the bath when she was only tiny. We went to pool on Friday and used a double system with a huggies little swimmer with a 'Konfidence' neoprene swim nappy on top. Really good fit but thankfully didn't find out if it worked or not!!! Saw the happy nappy on-line too and it was a toss up between this and the one we got. MrsMiyagi, I did put a cossie over the top but only coz we had already bought it and it's very cute!!!! Don't really think you need to. I did find out that a cold, tired, hungry 4.5month old screams blue murder after 30 mins in the pool. This part is not so fun!!!!

MrsMiyagi my DD1 always wore the same size swim nappy as she did in clothes. They are designed to be tight to keep the poo in so a snug fit round the legs and tummy is required. I have never put a costume on top but at our classes some of the Mums do - I think some find that babies are slippy in the water and a costume makes them more grippy others like to cover them up a bit but no you don't need a costume on top.
