What do I look for when comparing nappies?

I'm a new dad and wonder what I should be looking for when I'm in the supermarket buying nappies - there's so many on the shelf that all make the same promises! What do other mumsnetters look for when they're comparing the stuff on offer?

If I buy disposables I buy the own brand from either Tesco or Aldi as both have had very good reviews in Practical Parenting and are much, much cheaper than the leading brands.

I now avoid Pampers like the plague because since they changed them to have 'dry max' I find they leak all the time.

TBH I don't think you can tell from the packing what is good, you just have to try them and find something that works for you. Don't be afraid to try the own brand.

The only exception to my no-Pampers rule are these which were very good when they were newborn www.boots.com/en/Pampers-Micro-New-Baby-Carry-pack-24-Nappies_41901/

I think nappies are a bit like jeans- you have to find the brand with the fit/cut that works for you!

The lowest price - try Aldi or Lidl as they seemed to work fine. Mainly cloth nappy users here - let us know if you fancy trying??

We use cloth in the day and disposable at night. I only look for what works best, for DS. So, no leaks and the ability to stay on overnight (12 hours). Pampers Baby Dry is what we use at the mo, finding huggies leaky. Originally we used Nature Baby Care ('cause they're biodegradable) but they leaked too.
