Washer/dryer nappy recommendations

We are thinking about what reusuable nappies to get for bump when it arrives. Read all the usual stuff but still have three questions:
We have an Indesit washer/dryer - dryer presumably a condenser rather than tumble dryer. All the product info is with tumble dryers. Anyone recommend a nappy we can dry in our machine (yes I know this wanton waste of energy rather defeats the environmental benefits but with a winter baby due and UK weather I can't be that virtuous!)
Secondly, do people feel they generally got the benefit of the smallest size? If bump turns out to be a 10lb heffer at birth, he/she will be almost out of the first size. What do you think?
Finally, if people are using biodegradeable dispies to supplement reusables, any favourite brands and how do you separate from non-degradeable rubbish?

I use a washer dryer, but don't use the dryer much TBH. I think the best nappies for winter would be bumbles and fluffles, both of these fold down so they'd do for a mid to large newborn (tho they'd be bulky). Bumbles are great for night time and dry fast and fluffles dry extremely quickly, both have a pocket so can be boosted.

I'd avoid Sandy's and unbleached Tots Bots if drying is going to be a real issue. www.nappytrialservice.co.uk do a hire service for the first couple of weeks so you could try a range and see how you get on.

Good luck, Mia
