What should DS wear to go swimming?

I'm going to bite the bullet and take my almost 5-month old DS swimming on Wednesday ( a bit nervous!) We're going with a few others from a baby group. I need to go and get him a swimming costume, but I don't know which kind to get. I've seen the all-in-one sort with a zip up either the front or back, and the shorts and tee-shirt kind. Which do you think is best for a baby who hates getting in and out of clothes?! I am having nightmares about wrestling him out of the thing afterward when he is wet and cold!
Also - he is quite long for his age, although still wearing 3-6 months. Should I get a costume in that age range, or go for a bigger one which will obv last longer, but would the fact that it might be a bit big now make it useless?

Thanks for any advice - am aware have shown myself to be entirely clueless!!

When we took DS swimming to the first we just used a disposable swim nappy, but he got cold quite quickly (in about 5 minutes), he now has a reusable swim nappy and nappy cover from Konfidence. I was going to get a suity thing, but he's going to go to lesson which are held in private pool, so are much warmer, so didn't see the point.

The konfidence suits, completely unwrap so you wouldn't have to try and pull him about to get him in, unlike the nappy cover which I bought that is like a pair of pull ups. I would probably get the bigger size and let him grow into it, but then I do that with all DS's clothes, he's always got rolled up trousers on.

Both my boys started swimming at 5 months, and loved it. Hope you have a lovely time.

With both of mine, I just used a disposable swimming nappy to start with and then, later, just a pair of swimming trunks (not the baggy ones). A lot of shops do them in packs of two, and they stretch so last ages.

Twenty minutes will be enough to start with, depending on the pool.

I just had ds in a Floaties Swim nappy. Are you sure half term is the best time to do this as there may well be older children and the noise and splashing overwhelming, not to mention the changing area. Take an extra towel to lie him on or in case you drop one on the floor.

Both my boys starting swimming at a similar age and both hated getting undressed/dressed. They just wore swim nappy and swimming trunks. The pools they went to were warm and we wernt swimming for hours , so getting cold was never really an issue, and it made getting changed MUCH easier. Enjoy the swimming, your ds will love it and will probably sleep afterwards!!

Thanks everyone! Here's to the long nap afterwards (hopefully...)
