Can we go to the Octonauts house?

This half term my 4 year old has plans. Big plans.

Some of the things he's desperate to do include...

  • Going to visit the Octonauts and make friends with Dashi.
  • Going to see Poi and Chris' house in the sky and they might let us stay for tea.
  • Visiting Mr Bloom's allotment (our own isn't nearly as exciting, we don't have talking veg for a start).

And worst of all, he TRULY believes that I can make these things happen .

He's getting insistent and I don't want to spoil the magic. Telling him that they live a long way off/in magic places/in the TV just isn't cutting the mustard .

Help!

Aww he sounds really sweet and with a lively imagination ;-)
Have you thought of playing some make believe games with him at home so that he really can get on a plane (sit in a cardboard box) and visit the octonauts (assortment of teddies and soft toys).

He loves those sort of games, he turned all of the upstairs rooms into a desert island and hunted for treasure the other day. Sweet but very messy Grin! At the end of these games he often sighs and says that he wishes he could go to the 'real' desert island/oconauts/pirate ship Sad.

The problem is that he knows that there is something more than can be created by us. I remember feeling this myself (although at about 7-8 years old) and started writing stories.

Ah bless him. He sounds like a very intelligent and delightful little boy. Although I have not been a mother of a 4 year old (yet... mine is 3 months going on 3 years!) I have taught young children and all I can say is treasure this time with him for as long as possible.

Maybe if after having played make believe games etc. with him he still gets insistent that he wants to go to America why not gently explain to him the reasons why he can't have everything he wants. You could give him one or two nice days out this half term to look forward to that are more easily achievable.

Whatever you decide to do good luck with it :)

Thanks for your replies, we're taking to take him to the zoo later in the week. He's hoping to see the Octonauts at the Aquarium there Grin!

He's pretty good with the idea that he can't have all the material things he wants, but more intangible things are a bit of a struggle. He also can't see why other children get to go to Mr Bloom's allotment and not him. I've told him that they're probably Mr Bloom's children and nieces/nephews and that they go to his allotment like he goes to Mummy's. I could tell by his expression what he thought of his lot in life Grin.

i have a 9mo and this thread has just made me realise how much fun i have to come! I cant wait til he starts asking me stuff like this its just adorable!

I have no idea about these progs, but just thinking can u find out about him being on the mr bloom show or whatever its called? Yr probably going to tell me its a cartoon now or sth lol :) but when i was young i was desperate to be on Child's Play with michael aspel and my mum found out as much as she could, and also one day we happened to meet him at an exhibition and i asked him personally!! I never got to be on it but at least i could see my mum had really tried. Not sure this approach will help with visiting poi and chris in the sky tho...

OK, expensive enough to start saving but not as bad as I'd feared.

Ooh, he'd love it Grin!
