Anyone used muslins from birth? (as a nappy!)

I'm planning to use tots bots but think they might be too bulky from birth. Anyone used muslins? I've heard they can be used as nappies but surely they can't be that absorbent? Would you need a booster?

Yes, I've done it with ds and dd2. Works fine. With newborns you're changing the nappy quite often anyway, so not too much of a problem, but you can use boosters or two muslins together if you need extra absorbancy. I sometimes still use two muslins instead of one terry, and dd2 is 22 months now. Will last her overnight.

I fold into a pad (fold muslin into quarters, then into half again) and hold in place with a poppered wrap (I use nature babies from Kittykins). But you can use any of the conventional terry folds and hold in place with pins or nippas.

Yes I used them too, in a Jo fold (from Nappy Lady Website) and a tots booster in the middle. Lasts ages!

Yes, i did. Just get good quality muslins. I got Litte Ewes muslins off the website. Folded them in a bat fold (nappy lady website), and used a nappy nippa. Then a wrap. Basically - as you would a terry. Less bulky and very quick drying. They leaked when he did mega poo's - but anything would with his to be honest!

Found them really satisfying to use and good as a back up if run out of nappies.

Depends on the size and thickness of the muslins, Nanny. That's the great thing about them you can get the smaller, thinner ones for newborns. Mine are larger size (bigger than our terries) and good and thick. Now doing service on the bottom of child no. 3 how much of a bargain is that?

I used muslins that I made for dd2 when she was a new born.... so much lighter - fleece liner and I did the origami fold.
