Waking at 5am for a poo!

Hi there
I have a baby boy 6 ½ months old who after a bit of a slog and some CC is now almost sleeping through. He is fully weaned and so on 3 good meals a day, loves his food. He is still having a dreamfeed about 10/11pm (this is 5oz). The problem is for the last two weeks he has been waking at 5am (pretty much on the dot) and doing a poo! Obviously we go and change him (with little eye contact and no simulation (I do it with him still in his cot/sleeping bag and without switching the light on)) and then settle him again and leave? He starts moaning then crying and even with us going in a shhhh-ing or patting and resettling he still will not go back to sleep. A couple of times out of sheer exhaustion I have brought him into bed with me and he has easily fallen asleep again so he is still tired and isn?t hungry or anything. I?d rather not get him into a habit of waking to come into my bed, or only settling when in my bed and it would be best for all if he didn?t wake at 5 at all of course! But how do I stop him needing a poo at this time? Or perhaps he is waking thinking that it might be morning (he does coo happily to himself when he first wakes) and then his body assumes it is morning and so he poos?
I don?t think he is ready to drop his dreamfeed, but perhaps this is what we need to try next?when did other people drop this?
It?s an odd one I know but just wondered if anyone else has had this or has any advice! Like everyone else, I would truly love a full night?s sleep!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

When your ds needs to poo may be one thing you can not control.

Sorry.

IMO if your lo need the comfort of being near you, you should provide that. He will grow out of it.

My DS is 4 months and also does this, but he is usually happy enough to drop back to sleep after I've changed and fed him. I find he does lie in his cot and gurgle for a bit afterwards, then eventually nods off. His cot is in our room though so perhaps he's comforted by me being next to him - maybe you could put a camp bed or something in his nursery for a few nights and lie next to him until he falls asleep in his own bed? Having you near him might help?

But as MoonFace said, I don't think you can control when he poos I'm afraid!

A common cause of night pooing is having fruit to eat late in the day. Try giving him most of his fruit with his breakfast, a small amount at lunchtime and then a dairy based pudding at tea like rice pudding or yoghurt. He hopefully then should have his poo by the end of the day as the fruit will have been digested. Hope this helps!

Mine has done this on and off and is now 8 months old.

She wakes for a feed around 5ish, does a poo so I then change her put her back in cot, and she is then ready to start her day at 6!

Dont think there is anything you can do but hope they have a better poo time later on.
