sleep training?

Am currently in process of sleep training dd1. Now 18 months she has never really slept through the night. 6 nights ago stopped completely giving her milk at night wakings which we had been doing once or twice a night and just letting her settle herself back to sleep.

Sometimes she does this in 5 minutes or less but other times she's awake and fussing or crying for up to 90 minutes. I go in every now and again and cover her and make sure she has a dummy.

Just wondered how long there things take because I can tell dh resolve to support this is slipping

Any experience or pointers?

With ds it took about 3 nights, but he was nearer 12mnths than 18mnths, so hopefully any time now! Could you try giving a drink of water instead of nothing? Might just help her settle more easily but without filling her up like milk does....make it a more gradual transition?

Thanks, she is a stubborn soul. She won't drink water or juice at all only milk. When we have tried to Be more insistent about it she stops drinking anything at all which is a worry. She doesn't appear to Be missing the milk at all. Sometimes she would stay awake for an hour after having a bottle of milk in the night.

How did you stop the milk in the night. Was it hell?

Madness I just let her cry on waking for about 10 mins and went in laid her down covered her gave her a dummy stroked her head for a few seconds and left. Repeated every now again if she didn't settle. She clearly wasn't waking for milk but I always gave it whenever she woke cos I knew she'd go back to sleep straight after .
