Has anyone any experience of the eBay cheep AIO nappies from China?

Hi, I am keen to start DS (6 months) on cloth nappies full time. We have half a dozen trial ones and like Fuzzi Bunz and Pop in's the best. I am reckoning I'll need 20+ to go full time in reuseables which I just can't afford in the short term. I've been looking at brand ones on eBay and surprised how much they go for, again more than I can afford.

I noticed a few sellers from China that have a birth-to-potty AIO that looks like a Fuzzi that are really cheap - £52 for 16 nappies incl P+P. Their feedback looks really good too. Too good to be true? Anyone used them? Thanks!

Aarg - I mean cheap not "cheep"!

I think some have turned out to be OK, and others have been "too good to be true" and the laminate has pulled away and there's been problems with leaks. The names of the cheapies seem to change with great regularity so it may be difficult to find anyone who has used them for a decent amount of time. Although this section on Mumsnet is probably the best place to ask!!

I haven't had any of the ones from China but I have had some of the pop'n'gro style pocket nappies from a seller called thenappyco on eBay.
The only con I have found with them so far is that they needed a couple of prewashes ( which I would have done anyway) to remove a "plasticy" smell from the outer of the nappy.
They come in about 6 vibrant colours, I have had no leaks so far and DD is heavy wetter, she's quite skinny and they have fitted well round the legs which is a big boost for me, and the poppers are a good quality.
They're £4 each and if I remember rightly the postage was really reasonable. I will be ordering some more soon now I have been using them for a while and had no problems.
(I was previously using bambino mio prefold nappies and wraps, which I found not bad, but bulky and the wraps were quite inflexible and gaped at the front.)

I couldn't resist trying a Chinese cheapie with the same print as the Itti tiger. It came without an insert. Tried it three times (with appropriate inserts) and he might as well have been wearing nothing! Bizarre.

I got about 10 of them from a seller called 97cube or something like that? I will check my ebay in a minute and find out for sure!

So far they have worked very well but after 6 weeks one has lost a popper so think they might not be made very well. I won't buy Applix nappies at all as I find they get less "sticky" with time and pull on other nappies in the wash.

Mind you, I bought a lot of Bumgenius for ds3 which were much more expensive and didn't last any length of time so would feel the Chinese nappies are much better value!

chipmonkey · 19/02/2011 01:51

Sorry it's 97k-cube

swampster · 19/02/2011 16:54

Ha ha, chipmonkey. The nappy I bought is exactly the same as the first one on 97k-kube's picture. Wee just flows straight out of it.

I dislike BumGenius but find them horribly reliable when stuffed with the large microfibre insert and an extra hemp or bamboo booster. Tots Easyfits are much prettier and nicer.

If you remember to use the laundry tabs on aplix nappies they don't stick to everything and the aplix stays fresher for ages. If they get stuff caught in them you can de-fluff them with a nit comb.

Swampster, my other reason for hating BG's was the elastic went really quickly on them. Not sure why because I have had cheapo nappies and very expensive one and none of them went as baggy as the BG's. And so far, no leaks at all with the cheapo onesShock

swampster · 19/02/2011 19:48

I've been using my BG V3s for two-plus years now and they are still going strong. They look ugly as hell though. They don't age very gracefully. Elastic in BGs is still fine, as is the velcro but it looks terrible.

The few Blueberries I have are still beautiful and have aged MUCH better than BGs but they are so much more expensive they bloody well should. They get constant use - on, off, wash, dry, on off.

My Easyfits are weathering very nicely indeed.

chipmonkey · 19/02/2011 20:34

I do wonder what it was with my BG's. I very rarely hear anyone else complain about them. Don't have any blueberries but have some gorgeous Weenotions which do leak on occasion but only if I have put a tightly poppered vest on ds4.

mummynutter · 19/02/2011 22:56

Not had good experiences of ebay cheapies here, the PUL waterproof bit on 2 just leaked right through and the other 3 got damaged realy quickly. defo turned out 'too good to be true'

We have one easyfit which we like too and it wears nicely, just a bit slow drying though compared to our others.

We use mostly bumgenius and the new smartipants at the moment. Do find the branded ones to be a better quality (and I don't think either of them are made in china which is a bonus for us as avoid china-made where possible!)

chipmonkey · 20/02/2011 01:28

i have obviously been very lucky with my one gammy popper!

ilovemyoboe · 20/02/2011 18:10

I've heard that some of the ones from China have dodgy PVC, and one of my Coolababy ones from China does.

You can get Babyland nappies quite cheaply on ebay from a UK seller. I've found Babyland pockets great - they still fit my large 21month old, last for 3 hours (with little lambs size 2 bamboo boosters) but are quite compact.

notthewowy · 21/02/2011 10:09

I've bought a few (6?) of them mostly from that 97 cube dude, no baby to put them in as yet but have done the squidge test once or twice and they've passed that (beaker of water and a good roughing). Still for the price of them they'll do for the MIL anyway.
