My dd (now 7) never liked the potty and just went straight to using the toilet when she was 3, we did use a toilet insert though for a couple of months.

will he sit on it with his nappy on? it would be a start

or you could just go straight to toilet (with a child seat) like i did with my dd (who was 2yrs 8 mths)

a little step can be handy for this

I meant to add - don't force him, perhaps leave it for a couple of weeks and try again. You can also get a potty chair.

Mmm I think someone did say on here, that they squatted on a potty once, to show their child what to do (and no it wasn't me!!)

Oh, blueteddy, snap! Ds2 is 2.8 and is also terrified of the potty and refuses to sit on it fully clothed, never mind naked! Same with the toilet. Dd (4.9) got him to sit on the potty a while back, but he won't do it now, and I've had her and ds1 (6.9) demonstrating for him, but all to no avail. He doesn't even like running round with nothing on. A couple of times he's not wanted to get in the bath because he says he needs a poo ("poo coming out mummy!"), but will he sit on the potty? Will he heck!

It's very annoying because clearly very aware and will come and get me to do his nappy if he's dirty, in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago! But won't co-operate with training. Am currently letting it go, I think til after half term and then will try again.

Couple of products about that might help

Firstly if you by-pass the potty & go straight to a step with the toilet, the Rymax Family Seat has an inner seat that comes down (or clips to the lid when not in use) and makes the hole much smaller so less likely to fall in.

The otehr thing that mgith interest him is the 'My Wee Friends' temperature sensitive potty stickers that have recently been launched. Basically they are a black sticker about 3" diameter you stick in the bottom of the potty. When wee'd upon, the sticker, beign temp sensitive goes from black to showing a smiley faced animal face. Maybe you could encourage your older DS to demonstrate it for the younger? (in my experience children love to copy which is why my DD regressed from using the toilet (and a step) to not using the toilet after her 2 years old friend came round and didn't use the step )
