Waiting for my mark

It was 5 weeks on Friday since I sent in my first assignment on my new course, its a distance learning Msc.

I'd like to start my next module in a couple of weeks, but I don't want to commit to a start date until I've had my mark and feedback from the first one.

I waited a couple of weeks and emailed the administrator just to ask if there was a standard length of time for getting a mark back, she said 3/4 weeks, so we're way over that time, she's chased the tutor for me but nothing.

In her last email she said they have their board at the end of this month, and I'll definatly have it by then, that will be 8/9 weeks from when I sent it in.

Am I being unreasonable or is this a long time to wait?

Yes that is far too long to wait I get twitchy if my OU tutor takes longer than a week. Its difficult to move on to new stuff if you are waiting to see if you've grasped earlier things.

Does the tutor have a reason for being slow? I had an assignment that was late back just before Christmas but that was because the tutor was ill and I did know it would be late. Do you have contact details for the tutor?

Thanks, I thought I wasn't been unreasonable, and I'm getting a bit stressed now.

I haven't had a reason for it, I'd have thought the course administrator would have told me if there was a problem.

I have got an email adress for the course tutor, I think I'll email him on Monday afternoon if I don't hear anything before then, so far I've been in touch with the administrator you sent your assignment into, she logs in on their system and passes it on for marking.

I don't want to be a big pain, particularly as I've only just started but to be honest communication from the university is almost non existant, even for a distance learning course, so if I don't contact them I'm not confident they would call me to explain.

It's particularly annoying that I worked on my assignment over Christmas and got really stressed about sending it in on time, and then there's clearly no hurry to mark it.

I think you would be perfectly justified in chasing your tutor especially as you say you got your work in by the deadline.

It's 3 weeks where I am. But there is often a huge amount of marking in impossible deadlines so things can be later. They shouldn't be but often it is the uni that causes it rather than the tutor themselves. But def email the tutor.

Thanks everyone, still no mark, I'm going to give it until Friday and then I'm going to email him directly.
