How many nappies for two?

I'm seeking a bit of guidance from those who had two in cloth at the same time (thank you for fixing my Bumgenius leak problem by the way, to the lovely people who helped me recently).

DC2 is due in May, when DD will be 2.1. I'm therefore hoping that the overlap in nappies will be fairly short and don't want to buy masses of extras.

I reckon I've got about 15 nappies in the active stash now and wash every other day. Almost all BG v3, so they used to dry pretty quickly, but now they are being bamboo boosted, that bit takes longer.

I could live with washing every day, but need to allow drying time, since I don't want to tumble dry. I'm assuming I'll stick with BG. All babies in my family come out pretty big (DD was 9lbs) and, although I know they'll be a bit bulky at first, I like the idea of being able to just pack a bag with 'nappies' when I go out, rather than separate stashes for each child.

Any ideas anyone? I'm a big clueless. We didn't start with cloth until DD was 6 months and my memories of how many nappies you go through in the early days is extremely hazy.

Also, can anyone recommend a decent night nappy? It really matters to me that it doesn't feel wet against the skin (tried a Tots Bots with DD and didn't like it for that reason) and the BG have never stood up overnight for DD. Other than that, I'm pretty open to ideas.

Thanks!

Normally when I sell a set of 20 nappies for one child I would sell 30 nappies for twins. But would probably only advise getting another 10 - 12 for a second child (ie baby and toddler at the same time).

But you're already managing with 15, so I would probably say another 10.

Thanks, that sounds about right!

Fleece liners are great with any sort of nappy to keep the skin dry.

Yes fleece liners are good.
You can cut up a cheap fleece blanket but I got some lovely minky ones from here

Have you seen Ella's house bumhuggers? They are great for night as they are entirely fleece on the inside and have a sewn in but pull out hemp insert with a pocket so you can stuff in more and the outside is made of hemp so the wee goes through the fleece and soaks into the hemp and leaves the babies skin dry. I use a motherease rikki wrap over the top.

I have a similar gap to you. DD1 started potty training 4 months after DD2 arrived. There was a big sale from Baba Me on v3s last weekend but they are doing another offer this weekend on Flips - and a few other retailers as well. It is BOGOF on Flip covers and stay dry inserts. You could use the flip covers and a muslin for your newborn to start off with. I find Flips handy for shoving in the change bag as they really don't take up much room and with two in cloth space in the bag is precious otherwise you feel like a pack horse every time you leave the house!

The outers on my BGs dry really quickly, the inserts much longer, and like you I boost so these take longer too.

How about buying additional inserts only? You can get BG inserts for £3 each. Baba Me and Totnes Nappy Company sell them. That way you can use the outers more often and drying time on the inners isnt a problem.

I had two in nappies together for 15 months, with a 21 month gap between them. Only issue I found with using the same BGs is that over time, especially on the v3s the leg elastic loosens. So a good fit on your toddler may not be a good fit on your baby. You can repair the leg elastic on BGs easily though: www.diaperswappers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=490456&referrerid=37336 and Baba Me actually now sell a kit to do this and fit new velcro for £1 each.
