Baby hardly sleeps when out

My 5 month old DD2 is a really easy baby in many ways but rarely sleeps when we're out. I'm finding this really limiting what I can do and is difficult to juggle around getting DD1 out of the house. When DD1 is at nursery I stay in for hours to let DD2 sleep.

Should accept that DD2 will get tired and whinge but will fall asleep eventually? She looks so tired when we're out constantly aware of everything going on.

Could you try a sling? She might sleep better that way?

is she getting overstimulted perhaps? what do you have her in?

mine always slept better in the big pram than they did in my smaller buggy, I guess because they were lying flat, couldn't see much and it was a smoother ride

but can also recommend a sling, as iggly says.. i could carry ds2 and ds3 for a good few hours in a moby at that age

Dd1 was like this, and to a large extent I structured (and still do) my day round her naps where possible, as we were all happier that way. However, when she was as young as 5 months, she would fall asleep in the buggy on occasion, after much whinging, fully reclined and blacked out with multiple rugs arranged strategically over the top. So it was possible, just not easy. She went mental in slings, definitely wasn't an option for her.

Dd2 otoh falls asleep without me even noticing sometimes!

I could have written this post. I just have to accept it and build my day around it. It is hard going sometimes but we are all happier for it to be honest. But it is very restricitve

Exatly the same here with DD2. I keep finding myself cancelling things because our day without a nap turns to shite. When we go out in the car she may fall asleep but on short journeys not deep enough to stay asleep. Every time I get to traffic lights I pray they don't turn red, and dread getting stuck behind a bus!

Sling is good but not ideal if you've gone somewhere for a sit down and a cuppa!

Thanks so much for your replies. At least I'm not alone. I though DD1 was bad but DD2 is even worse! I carry DD2 a lot, she loves it, and I'm using a structured carrier facing inwards but her little head darts from side to side constantly looking for someone to smile at.

I'm so envious of those babies that just drop off anywhere. I guess I should make the most of the time when she's asleep and DD1 is at preschool to chill out before the return to work in April.
