Can anyone recommend me a really good non-spill cup?

I'm looking for a really reliable non-spill cup and hoping someone can help. We mostly use flip-top cups (tommee tippee-style), but DD still often turns them upside-down, so I would like to get a couple of proper no-spill ones to use in the car or pushchair when necessary.

We tried all sorts with DS, Avent ones, Mothercare and various others, but they all ended up leaking eventually and going in the bin. So I would be grateful if you can recommend any that worked for you. Thanks!

They all leak even if they say they don't, believe me i've tried loads! The only one that hasn't so far leaked is the steady co steady cup but that's an onep cup with a travel lid and I doubt that's what you are looking for.

twinkytonk · 05/02/2011 22:57

open not onep!

whomovedmychocolate · 05/02/2011 22:58

There is no such thing, the ones that don't leak go mouldy and 'orrible and the ones you can clean properly are not leakproof. Actually I did get one that didn't leak but you need to suck so hard the kids can't use it - frankly I couldn't use it when I tried. Hmm

The cow cups are okay. As are the sainsburys little ones cups.

But they are all a teeny weeny bit shit TBH.

Grin at teeny weeny bit shit! That was pretty much our experience so far! Will think about cow cups then, I have seen them around...

We have the cow cup for toddler. It's brill, never leaked, even upside down. Ok so you do have to spend a bit more time cleaning it than others because of all the nooks and cranny's but meh!

I'm talking about the one with handles by the way. The tall one without handles is impossible to get anything out of.

Also we have a blue one of these which is quite good. They drink out of it like a normal cup but it has a lid. It does leak a leetle bit if upside down but not much.

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 05/02/2011 23:22

We have an Avent one (Looks a bit like a magic cup 12 + but not quite, don't know if it's just older?) which hasn't failed us yet. It is fiddly to clean, as there are 4 parts, and one rubber disc bit that forms the valve seal gets lost in the dishwasher, but no leakage at all.

Cow one is crap for leaking IMO.

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 05/02/2011 23:23

Am I missing something on the cow cup? How does yours not leak? Confused Is there a valve I've lost or something?

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 05/02/2011 23:29

Apparently this Anyway Up Cup is good

Tupperwarewolf · 05/02/2011 23:31

The cow one is the best one I have found - they have changed the design recently so there is no longer a removable valve (which started leaking quite quickly for us - twice, but DC loves the cup). It is a bit manky inside now though and does slightly need replacing just because it's hard to clean properly inside the spout.

We have also got on well with this one from Mothercare, which holds a bit more than the dinky cow cup, but it's hard to get the lid on properly (and if you don't = leaks) and if you squeeze it for any reason (eg to check the lid is on properly) then it bends out of shape and um leaks.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 06/02/2011 13:24

We also have the cow one. DD will usually bang her cups until the valve falls out and water then spurts out the top. Very rarely happens with the cow.

We also have a toddler Avent magic cup. It does drip a little from the air hole but it's pretty reliable.

QueenSconetta · 06/02/2011 15:11

We have a tomee tipee active straw cup which so far hasn't leaked at all so if your LO is able to manage a straw that might help. I also find DD is much more keen to drink from it than a normal cup.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 06/02/2011 15:45

Oh yes we had ones like that with the gingerbread man on, one was fine for a while but then started leaking and the second always leaked! Same with the Avent ones, thought they were good at first but then they got leaky and the replacements were leaky from the start...

The straw one sounds interesting, I'm sure DD could figure out a straw if she wanted though she hasn't had one yet. Might give it a try.

Thanks for all the replies!

My ds has the Tommee Tippee Sportster one. He bashes it about something rotten and its never leaked(thank god) was only a couple of quid and i'd def buy it again...Its even been through the washing mashine!(now check its empty before doing a wash)Grin

Pleiades45 · 07/02/2011 08:47

The anyway cup was the best one I found for my boys when they needed one. It outlasted all the other ones. When it did leak after a year or more it was becauses DS2 who sucks his fingers was rather 'aggressive' with it when drinking.

BTW, The type of slit used on the anyway cup is also used by some soft drink manufacturers on their sport bottles. I often would buy one and then empty and fill with water, another option for being out and about and if it was lost it wasn't an issue.

Sassles · 08/02/2011 13:57

I've just bought a Nubby(?). It is free flowing, but DS has to squeeze the spout bit with his mouth to let the water/milk flow through then it is free flowing. Not a valve as such, but it is soft squeezy rubber and the holes are closed until you apply a bit of presure to open the holes IYSWIM. Just got it, so not sure of it yet and whether DS has quite got the hang of it, but not spilled yet.

Sassles · 08/02/2011 14:01

Sorry it's a Nuby no spill convert-a-cup 4 in one.

Says recommended by orthodontists.

anonnyme · 08/02/2011 14:18

The only ones that I have found to be any good with DD are the original anywayup cup & the avent magic cup

Which I find amazing really, because they were the only ones I found any good when DS1 was a toddler (he's 13 now)

I would have thought that they would have been able to come up with something a bit better by now but hey-ho Smile

TragicallyHip · 08/02/2011 14:24

My Mum bought one for Ds, I think it is Tommee Tippee. Doesn't spill

glikeria · 16/04/2012 22:31

can anyone recommend good orthodontists in central london?
