I have bought a variety of cloth nappies, to try once my baby is born in may, how many times do i need to wash them before use? Just waiting for a nice day to get them on the line.

the nappy lady says they reach optimal absorbency after about 5 or 6 washes but just to do it twice before first use as they reach the 5 to 6 washes pretty quickly after that.

The online webstore I normally buy from says that natural fibre nappies need 5-6 washes to reach full absorbancy but that synthetic fibres, like microfibre, only need one wash to just get rid of an chemicals that might still be on the fibres from the manufacturing.

The last nappies I bought had microfibre inserts and I only washed them once before use and had no problems so I'm just going to do that from now on.

I usually wash mine twice with an extra rinse before use, first couple of times you use them on baby change more often and they soon reach absorbancy and you can cut down the changes.

I soak mine in the bath for 24
Hours, seems to do the trick and sales wasting energy keep running the washer

I've got a fast 30 minute wash on my machine, so washed on that setting twice and the nappies seemed fine after that.

just to add - you don't need to dry them between washes!

Would you use soap powder for all washes or just the first?
