Suitable food after gastric flu?

Ds (1) has had gastric flu over the weekend and is starting to get his appetite back. I looked on the internet for alkaline foods and it said carrots so I cave him carrots and he was immediately sick. He's sick to death of try toast and rice cakes though. He's back on milk. Do any of you experienced mum's have any other suggestions?

My dd was sick yesterday and she had plain pasta for tea tonight - I know it isn't very exciting, but it might be something you haven't given him yet and anything different is more likely to stimulate his appetite than the toast and rice cakes. BTW you can put a little marmite, honey or jam on the toast, it doesn't have to be completely dry. Also boiled potato, rice and jelly and acceptable.

BRAT diet - banana, rice, apple and toast, I think - is often recommended. If he sicked up the carrots I wonder if he needs more bulk to enable him to hold the more fluidy things down. A really watery soup with bread may work better - boil the carrots then blend to a very runny puree and put chunks of bread in to soak it up. Mashed potato to whcoih you could gradually dd other foods. Crispbake type biscuits with a thin layer of marmite or similar. Would he tolerate yoghurt, preferably with probiotics ?

To get his tummy flora back in order? Maybe, I'll give them a go. Is marmite okay? I was worried it was a bit too salty, especially if he was already loosing fluids, though he doesn't seem dehydrated.

he does love his marmite though

He'll have lost salts through chucking up too so marmite should be fine.
