Both kids ill (2 and 4) with heavy colds/mild flu and we are stuck at home all day today again -- any good ideas for gentle things to do? Too much tv yesterday!
We don't have much space (single kitchen/living room) and limited toys so have exhausted colouring, play doh and cooking on their toy oven, played Red Dog, Blue Dog read books... any other ideas, pleeease?! Feeling ill myself and imagination has disappeared... thanks! Smile

First of all, hope you all feel better soon. Here are a few ideas:

Sticking - bits of wrapping paper, magazine etc.
Coin/leaf rubbing (put under paper and gently rub with crayon) - better for older one
Singing (they won't care if you're croaky)
Have you got the energy to do some real cooking with them (biscuits/cake/pizza)
Snap
dressing up (in your clothes if necessary)

make a den in the lounge with cushions, duvets etc

Do they have a doctors kit? Or if not improvise one - DD1 loves playing doctors and it's all the more fun if someone's actually ill Grin

CBeebies games on the computer? You can also print off Cbeebies characters for colouring from the website.

Do they have a doodle pad type thing? I taught DD1 (2.9) to play noughts and crosses recently and she loves it

Bundle them up and take them to the shop to choose a magazine?

Hope that helps Smile

Read stories, let them make up stories. Pretend that the bed is a car/tent/train/castle etc.
Teddy bear picnic, decorate cupcakes, play with little cars/trains/dolls, duplo/lego, find out how animals live on computer (what they eat, where they sleep, if they are wild/tame etc), find out about hot air balloons/fairies/trains/etc. Make a snake with coloured strips of paper (from magazine for example), first draw shape of snake on paper on two sides of the paper. Then stick coloured strips on one side of paper and cut out using lines on other side of paper, could do other shapes then snake as well. Good luck.

treasure hunt if they can move?
very long playful baths
washing up for you in sink
tents made from throws
potato or hand printing if you have the energy
get them to make a fruit salad - chopping bananas/washing grapes etc...
jigsaws
wrap them up and go for fresh air to feed ducks maybe.
make ice lollies
helping sort through toys/doing house jobs

Don't you just feel like the whole of winter is like this?! Days get dark so quickly, too cold for the park for long etc. Can be depressing and major cabin fever sets in.
I've got some ideas of the things I do with my girls aged 2 and a bit and 10 months on my blog. Lots of crafty things, easy games, making toys out of recylced materials etc
You can read it here . Hope you get some ideas!

Look at www.nurturestore.co.uk. It has LOADS of fab suggestions which my 2.10 year old loves. 4 year old would like lots of it too, as I have used some of them with my Reception class. Hope you all feel better soon.
