It is my responsibility to remind an 8 yo to brush their teeth?

Usual Monday morning routine. Ds (8yo)showered and went to get dressed whilst dd used the bathroom. Usually, he then returns to brush his teeth. The next time I see him he's sitting reading his school book so I think he's ready. On with the coats and off we go. Ds starts laughing at something I say and I see his teeth Shock. These aren't yellow they are orange. He swears he brushed them Hmm. I hope he doesn't get teased. Do you still have to remind your 8 yo?

I am afraid so. Mine is 9.8, she needs reminding morning and evening. Same with her hair. I have considered getting a recording done 'Kreechgirl, don't forget to do your teeth and hair, kreechgirl, don't forget to do your teeth and hair, kreechgirl, don't forget to do your teeth and hair' you get the picture.

I still need to remind my 14 and 15 year olds! (Not sure that they take any notice of me, though...)

Yes, definitely.

I have to remind all of mine. Mostly 11 and 13yr old DS's though. They don't 'remember' to do them while they are at their Dads because he doesn't tell them to do them.

FranSanDisco · 31/01/2011 12:42

Grrr! I was afraid you'd say that Grin. It's so frustrating though.

orange teeth??? from missing brushing them one morning??? how?

Othersideofthechannel · 31/01/2011 12:45

Not always. I don't so much remind but check it is done.

FranSanDisco · 31/01/2011 12:48

Dropdeadfred, the point is not the colour but how obvious it was that they hadn't been brushed. What colour were you expecting?

I don't understand how teeth get orange either? Has he been chewing tobacco?

FranSanDisco · 31/01/2011 12:58

Actually I could do with a dulux colour chart to match to his teeth so I know how many days he's missed e.g yellow 1 day, orange 2 days, green 3 days, etc Grin. He naturally has quite yellowy teeth so not brushing is very noticable, more so than with dd iyswim.

Has he been eating cheesy wotsits? Check the colour of his fingertips Smile

I still nag at the age of 11.
Our dentist is lovely, but can put the fear of God in him-he stopped thumb sucking pretty sharpish when she bollocked him one day. Six monthly checkup is looming.........

ISNT · 31/01/2011 13:44

What about getting some of that "revealing" stuff that they gave us at school - it shows up all the muck and clag on your teeth. IIRC it turns it pink - combined with the orange that might be enough to encourage him to be a bit more scrupulous!

emmab5 · 31/01/2011 13:46

Deaddei I need your dentist - I still have to remind/nag DD aged 10 on a daily basis to brush her teeth and am still trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb :o

FranSanDisco · 31/01/2011 15:22

ISNT, oh you've reminded me of that stuff. Yes it may shock him or start a trend of multi coloured teeth Wink. I remember how well you had to brush to remove all the pink stains - not a 2 second dip, spit and run that ds seems to get away with. The dentist says he has perfect teeth which doesn't help my cause, grrr. More morning vigilence by me is obviously needed.

Disclosing tablets! You can get them from boots and they are pretty cheap. Use them with my DS (8) he is terrible at swilling roind his mouth with a bit of toothpaste and giving them a quick tickle with the toothbrush if he's not watched. Every now and then I make him take one of the tablets so I can check just how well he really has done them.
Word of warning though the tablets are very blue and can make a right mess of the bathroom if you don't supervise and wipe quickly!

ISNT · 31/01/2011 21:56

Ha yes, rainbow teeth are the way forward!
