seeking washable nappies advice

Zauberfee · 10/10/2005 16:15

Hello everyone! I am expecting my little one in December and I am fretting about nappies at the moment. I am very grateful for any information concerning washable nappies, especially which ones to get and where to get them. They have to be affordable too. Is there a store anywhere in the South where I could try them? Looking forward to your replies. *maike
PS: I am also looking for young pregnant buddies in the Bournemouth area.

I'm due in Feb, have a 2 1/2 yr old little lady, and live in Charminster

flamebat · 11/10/2005 09:37

She has changed the site too - tis much clearer to find the sterling section, and she still has various discounts.

There's a shop in Poundbury (just outside Dorchester) called Hey Baby. They do motherease, cotton bottoms and bambino mio(I think). Found her quite helpful too. I live near Poole & have 3 dd's (2 are twins) & I am due in March. Don't know if I count as being young tho

lauralou123 · 11/10/2005 17:10

Tots bots are fab. I use them with my son and have got on really well. In fact I liked them so much a brought a load wholesale to try and sell on ebay. Sadly the copyright police have decided I can no longer do this. Boo!!!!!

Anyway, that brings me to the self-serving part of my response. If you want to buy some I know a young lady who just wants to make her money back so will sell them cheap!

If you are interested they are still on ebay, but not for much longer. Also, babygoeseco.co.uk has them a bit cheaper, and some local councils are now doing free trials. There are also some sites doing trials, eco-babes.co.uk and babykind.co.uk do this but I have never used it so couldn't say if they are any good.

Good luck with everything!

vkone · 13/10/2005 16:33

IF you can get up to London, three of the best nappy makers have stands at Olympia next weekend (21-23rd) I think some are doing discounts www.thebabyshow.co.uk .

I first bought from Kittykins and they quite understand if you order several types and then send back stuff that's not suitable (unused of course) or better still try a nappy trial for the first few weeks www.nappytrialservice.co.uk

vkone · 13/10/2005 16:39

Forgot to mention, some of the retailers have free tickets as well. Check out www.totsbots.com

Zauberfee · 13/10/2005 17:17

Thank you for all your replies! I'm not online at home so I can't check messages all the time. I got a brochure from Cotton Bottoms, any opinions about them? Also, will it be worth going to the baby show? we're down south and it would be quite a trip; also need to convince the dad, who loves his lazy weekends...

I use the laundry service for my twins. I get the feeling that a lot of people on here don't like the nappies but the only time I had leaks was when they were due to move up to the next size. I am planning to buy some one size nappies to use until potty training then I can use them when the new baby arrives.

startingtobehalloweenylover · 13/10/2005 22:00

where in the south are you? west sussex council does a free nappy starter pack!

TheBentPolice · 13/10/2005 22:12

there is a Green baby shop in Notting hill.

NannyL · 13/10/2005 22:17

Zauberfree

in all honesty i REALLY dont like cotton bottoms, personaly i think a shaped nappy and a wrap works SOOO much better than a pre fold...

i found they were always leaking.

Ive used loads of different nappies and C B were DEF by far my worst ever!

I like Mother Ease sandys, loads of others luv MEonsesize. Kissaluvs have to be my all time favs

I also 'dont get on with' all in ones like kooshies or the boots own brand all in ones either!

flamebat · 13/10/2005 22:22

Where abouts are you? I have some tots bots and some kissaluvs here if you wanted to see some in the flesh?

roosmum · 13/10/2005 22:24

LOVE bumbles, which are also birth-to-potty nappy, pretty handy.
motherease airflow wrap on top, lasts all night
easy nappying - look at fuzzi bunz, a stuffable nappy, easy to use as a disp.

a word for prefolds tho - they're not as bad as made out to be IMO (but stay well clear of bambino mio wraps - they perish in the wash. cotton bottoms fine), but best avoided when baby has runny poo (eg bf newborn). later on they're slim-fitting, which is nice for some outfits which bulkier nappies (eg tots) just won't fit under...there, warn & confuse you in one go!

discodolly · 15/10/2005 20:22

Hi Zauberfee

If you want to check out the different types of nappies try Lollipop - the local rep is called Louise Rowland tel 01202 548261 and she lives in Winton. I went to see her with Dh when pregnant and it was really great to see and feel all the differnt types and have them explained. I was a bit naughty though and didn't buy off them (bought off Kittykins website and Bumdiddy as had better choice when is came to colours).

I use Tots with Motherease wraps at the mo which are fab. But just about to invest in some Fuzzis for day use as DD is 6 months, on the move and you can fit more clothes over them!

Good luck!

bonym · 20/10/2005 14:17

Zauberfee and disco dolly - I prefer my Happy Heinys to Fuzzis - Aplix easier than poppers (esp. for dh), fleece lining rolls out over the legs so no marks, and the patterns are gorgeous.
