OU tutorials - mandatory?

Hello all

Just started a new OU course, and was browsing through the forum, to discover everyone barbling on about tutorials, which I hadn't even checked. Can anyone tell me (before I make just the best impression on my new tutor) if attendance at these things is mandatory?

Nope, very much optional but usually very useful.

Phew! It's massively impractical for me with ds and dd atm; I've done a fair amount of study before, so think I'll get by, which will do me. Thanks!

I'd advise you send your tutor an email to explain you have childcare issues so can't make the tutorial but you'd be grateful if he or she could email you any notes or hand-outs if there are any.

Agree with both MuminBed's posts.

If you can at least make the revision tutorial (assuming you have exams in your module) that would probably really help to focus you.

I'll do that, thanks - good manners at the very least, I guess, and v helpful to have the notes etc. Thanks for your help.

x-posts, Wincy. I'll see nearer the time if it feels necessary/possible. I'm the freakish type who actually likes exams, however...

I like exams too Habbibu Grin [freak]

It's been a while since I did my OU (actually pre-kids, this just caught my eye in Active Convos) but the final "revision" tutorial was just fantastically helpful in terms of consolidating a lot of material into different questions.

Very much depends on your subject (and personal circs) I guess. Hope you enjoy your course.

Actually, if I'm being honest, the practicalities (which are genuine, honest guv) aside, I'm massively antisocial a lot of the time, and would like to avoid meeting new people if it's not strictly necessary. But I'll keep your wise words in mind, and see how things are going nearer the time. Cheers.

Hi I have done several OU courses.I went to all my tutorials on my last course, they were helpful and I met and had interesting discussions with some lovely people. Out of 20 people in the tutor group, only about 5 turned up each week so we got to know each other well, it was every fortnight. However, I could have easily managed without going. On my new course there are only about 5 tutorials so I didn't see the point plus they are on a bad day for me. So I haven't been to any and still have simelar marks for this course. Don't worry if you can't make it.
