and shouldn't we be encouraging them to enjoy it rather than helping them bunk off?

because in our school you had outside hockey when you wearing small shorts suitable only for a tahitian beach holiday when in fact it was november and about 3 degrees if you were lucky
because the people who excelled in sport at our school were usually the less academically successful bullies who would gang up on you and try and smash your face in if you got on the netball team
because the showers were very cold and communal and for a teenage girl, that pretty much sucks

tons of reasons to hate it.

projectmanagerCOd · 10/10/2005 13:38

lol dd

Caligula · 10/10/2005 13:43

Do they still have communal showers?

My old school does not have communal showers any more, but that is mainly because an irate ex student burnt down the sports block.

projectmanagerCOd · 10/10/2005 13:46

dilly put the matches away

dillydally · 10/10/2005 13:48

but the light flickers so prettily

Caligula · 10/10/2005 13:48

Has anyone ever done a survey to find out if there are a disproportiate number of loonies who teach PE? We had fairly benign ones (although she did once try to tell us that wearing tights while playing hockey would make us sterile, thus undermining all our biology teacher's efforts to take a rational approach to sex education), but at a time when flares were simply not available in shops, they managed to have flared track suit bottoms. We used to wonder where the hell they got them from.

Caligula · 10/10/2005 13:48

Lol at mad DD!

dillydally · 10/10/2005 13:54

In our school, teachers always had to teach two subjects so all the PE teachers taught geography on the side (very poorly too I must say)

Tortington · 10/10/2005 14:05

because PE teachers are sadistic. they mke you do cross country in shorts...in the winter with a biting wind and driving rain.

they also make you play netball when its freezing so if you catch the ball with the tip of your fingers if fkings murders.

sadists sadists the lot of them

colditz · 10/10/2005 14:13

Yes I will never forget Bitch Renshaw. She left a legacy of shame with me. The worrying thing is, this was only 10 years ago, she wasn't very old, she could still be 'teaching'!

She tried to bully a friend of mine with a heart defect into doing cross country!

Caligula · 10/10/2005 14:21

Why are they all so mad?

tortoiseshell · 10/10/2005 14:58

Wlil read the thread later. We were FORCED into hockey 3 times a week even at 6th form, and I LOATHED it. Couldn't get the ball to go anywhere, froze to death in the north of england with stupid gym skirt and hideous gym knickers. So always skulked at back with friends, talking, getting no benefit out of lesson. BUT loved swimming, tennis, rowing, netball, ski-ing, badminton - having a range of options would be SO much more beneficial than giving everyone a stupid stick and ridiculous boots that bring home half the hockey pitch.

Enid · 10/10/2005 15:00

this thread is making me lolol

JoolsToo · 10/10/2005 15:14

oh yes - JoolsToo had 3 stitches in her head cos Carol Tierney couldn't bear the thought that I was going to score a goal in lacrosse so she floored me.
