A book - is she really going to have time to read it?

Bath oil - again is she going to have time to have a nice indulgent long soak in the bath. And will the chemicals and fragrances irritate down below?

Make Up

Vouchers for a meal out - might not be practical to take a baby and might not want to leave it for a long time especially when breastfeeding?

Footspa

These ones I think are definitely OK?

Cake and champage

Vouchers for a local takeaway that delivers

Lansinoh and breast pads

Voucher for a nursing bra

bessie26 and zayla Would you have drunk one of those mini bottles of champagne that is 200ml so 100ml each for you and DP/DH.

bessie26 Do you think you would read a thin, lightweight paperback easy going chick lit type book that doesn't really require any brain capacity? Also what if the bra voucher was a voucher for a shop that does good fitting for bras so you could keep it and buy a nice new non-nursing bra for your meal out and babysitting vouchers or for when you stop feeding?

AppleAndBlackberry Do you mean you would have found the lunch or dinner out too stressful taking the baby or leaving them with someone else? What about if the meal vouchers came with some babysitting vouchers with no expiry date?

bacon I just think it's the mum that's done all the hard work that it's nice not to forget that and to buy her something about as well as the baby. Which of my ideas below would you have liked for yourself? For the ones you wouldn't like would you mind saying why :)

A lightweight easygoing paperback book

An audio book

Thermal mug

DVD boxset

Make Up

Luxurious shower gel/shower oil

Scented candles

Footspa

Vouchers for a lunch or dinner out with babysitting vouchers with no expiry date

A non-chocolate cake and champagne

Vouchers for a local takeaway that delivers

Vouchers for new non-maternity clothes

Voucher for a shop that does good fitting for bras

I loved the cleaner for a month idea. I would have cried with happiness if someone had given me that!

Slightly offtopic but are you not allowed chorizo when you're pregnant skyblue? Ooops. Oh well doesn't seem to have done any lasting harm.

Loving the thermal mug idea! I didn't have a warm drink for about a year after giving birth.

My best pressie was a grobag swaddling cloth. I had a tiny very easily startled 'flappy' baby, and it saved my sanity. I probably wouldn't have bought it because of the price, but because it was a gift I used it and loved it, and ended up getting a few more on eBay.
Also liking he cleaner idea, and just babysitting so they can have a bath without worrying. I would have liked an expensive shawl in a natural fabric for night feeds as well, but never found one... Even after stopping BF, it still would have been nice on the cooler nights. Or a lovely posh dressing gown for same.

Hands down my best gift was a postpartum care kit. I had oodles and oodles of little pink outfits for DD but absolutely nothing for myself. One amazing friend got me a breastfeeding kit with all the essentials to help with nursing (a god send as my little one turned out to be severely tongue tied). Another friend got me a care kit for recovering after a vaginal delivery so it had perineal spray, peri bottle, organic pads, postpartum tea etc. Mama Hug (www.mamahug.co.uk) make them and deliver them to the door or hospital so all you have to do is order online.
