What do your parents still tell you off for

On the back of the thread "What your dm never let you do as a child"

I thought I ask what does your parents still tell you off for

I get told off for wearing inappropriate clothes, for dressing my DDs inappropriately and for not wearing clothes around the house

allowing the girls to stay up late

I get told off for eating late

Driving to fast although I do not normally break the speed limit

There are lots of examples but can't think of many

Stretching. My sister always stretches her arms up in the air whenever she walks into the kitchen at home - and my Dad says "oh look - you're stretching again!" and tickles under her arms. She is 25. Grin

It's a standing family joke now, but I think it did once annoy our parents that she was always yawning and stretching while standing in the middle of the kitchen floor and getting in everyone's way...

Going out late on my own (only Tescos not clubbing)
Not wearing sufficient coat/scarf
Putting on weight

If I every itch my nose, I get told off for 'picking' it by my DM - like it's some kind of reflex!

She doesn't tend to tell me off directly, more through the children (yawn)

e.g. 'Don't your socks look funny' if DCs are wearing odd socks

' isn't you're mummy mean' if I stop them eating a 4th biscuit round her house etc etc

Spending too much money on things they do not deem as necessary!

Being sarcastic with my DH! Hmm Even when I am jesting, slightly odd. DH knows the difference believe me and he doesn't need my mother to fight his battles he has got his own !

not dressing DS appropriately. According to her, he is always too hot. Even in winter when all he is wearing is a long sleeved t-shirt Hmm

Being "mean" to DP (she's probably right on that one)

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/01/2011 10:40

Not drinking water.

She thinks it has no taste, and can't seem to grasp that to me it tastes revolting.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 24/01/2011 10:42

Smoking, always the bloody smoking.

BarbarianMum · 24/01/2011 10:46

Not dressing warmly enough.

Not dressing my dc warmly enough.

Not wearing a hat.

My mum hates feeling cold and is very good at transference.

Also, being a bit of a slattern (it's not how she raised me). She is secretly worried that dh will leave me for being an inadequate housewife.

She's German so I try and ignore the cleaning stuff cause she really can't help it. Bonkers.

FoxyRevenger · 24/01/2011 10:47

Being on Mumsnet Grin
Not wearing a coat
Not putting shoes on my daughter. She's 7 months old FGS, they just fall straight off!
Not doing thank you cards for my daughter's Christmas presents.

exexpat · 24/01/2011 10:57

Not wearing makeup Hmm
Walking places by myself eg taking the dog in the woods or walking home after dark (I'm in the middle of a busy, well-populated area - though also less than 200m from where Vincent Tabak was arrested....)
Staying up too late

I smile, nod and ignore.

SingingSands · 24/01/2011 10:57

Here are the most popular items that my mother likes to moan that I am doing wrong:

Not writing thank you cards.
Not writing Christmas cards.
Not dressing the DC in 25 layers of clothing, all year round.
Driving long distances.
Driving in the dark.
Driving in "weather" (unless to pick DC up from school, this is the only exception).
Not taking holidays abroad (mother seems to think we can take entire family abroad for tuppence).
Not selling house and buying a bigger one (she has no idea of house prices where I live).

There are many more, but I've bored myself now!
