What do/did you do with you babies? Did you bath at night and top/tail in the morning, or just bath? I bath at night and give her face/neck a clean in the morning.....should I be doing more!

I think you are doing plenty! My toddler gets a a 'good wet wipe' most of the time... but I am slummy...

rubyslippers · 22/01/2011 16:58

DD was bathed about once or twice per week when she was tiny

She was topped and tailed though

Too much washing can dry their skin and they aren't exactly getting dirty at this age

He gets a bath in Balneum every night for his eczema and then just hands/face washed before/after meals/as needed.

His bottom is cleaned with a wipe at every nappy change.

8 week old gets a bath a couple of evenings a week and a face wipe when I remember. Main thing is excavating the creases on her so the lovely cheesy milk doesn't build up!

Goldrill · 22/01/2011 18:18

on her neck I meant to say!

Iggly · 22/01/2011 18:34

We top and tailed for the first three months - ibclsuinf behind the ears and under the chin as DS used to dribble milk out when feeding Hmm

Started baths around 4 months but not every day until about 6/7 months.

Iggly · 22/01/2011 18:35
  • ibclsuinf eh?! I meant including Grin

All depends on age.
When mine were newborn, they were T&T'd every night and morning.
When the umbilical cord came away, bathed every 3 days and T&T'd the rest of the time.
When they could sit on their own, I stopped T&Ting in the mornings, just did it in evenings.
When they hit about 6 months, they bathed every night
Now they are 3.5yrs and 2yrs and we bath them every other night.

bath my 8 month old every night but only because he loves it (never seen anyone get so excited about a bath), then T&T in the morning.

tigermummy35 · 22/01/2011 20:41

We bathe our 10 week old every other day in plain old water. Also plenty of cleaning the creases under chin, behind ears for milky residues. Wetwipe his face a couple of times a day if he looks like he needs it, and bottom cleaned thoroughly every time we change him.

FloweryBoots · 26/01/2011 16:04

I wash hands, face and neck every morning with a bath about twice a week, again in the morning. Mine is 5 1/2 months and have done this since he was born. Evening baths just don't work for us and it's never occured to me to wash his face etc. again before bed, now wonder if i should! His face gets wiped with a muslin if he get's very dribaly as and when required and if he's very slobery I give it an extra wipe whilst doing a nappy change (just with cotton wool and water).

putthekettleon · 26/01/2011 16:36

DD1 (2.9) and DD2 (7 months) get a bath every other night. On non-bath days DD1 still gets a quick face/hand wash with a flannel and DD2 occasionally gets a top and tail if she's particularly grubby. We do get through a ton of babywipes every week as well, I seem to have them in every room in the house for random food/snot/poo cleaning!

AngelDog · 26/01/2011 20:23

13 m.o. gets a bath once a week, maybe once a fortnight if the evenings are busy. His hands & face are washed on waking & before bed, and hands before & after every meal. His bottom gets done at every nappy change, which is often. :)

He has eczema so I wouldn't want to bath him much more than once a week.

lurcherlover · 26/01/2011 22:05

I bath DS every day if I can, just because he really enjoys it and I do too - it's our bit of evening quality time (he's 13 weeks). He doesn't need it for cleanliness, it's just for fun really. Although has anyone else noticed how pongy little babies get behind their ears and in their armpits? DS gets a build up of white gunk (dead skin? Can't be milk in his armpits!) which smells horrible! I do find it quite satisfying cleaning it out though...sicko mummy Blush

putthekettleon - rather than all those babywipes, try cheeky wipes washable wipes. I am so evangelical about them to all my mummy friends - they are one of the most unexpected, best baby buys I have. The starter kit is expensive, but I haven't bought a single pack of wipes since having it, and they are so much nicer to use. No extra washing either - I put them in with DS's clothes and a bit of napisan, or in with a towel wash. I should work for them I love them so much (I don't, promise!)

togarama · 26/01/2011 22:30

It was top and tail a couple of times a day and bath a couple of times a week for us.

Lurcherlover: Yes but with DD it definitely was milk in her armpits! She was a really messy eater at 3-4 months.... The white stuff smelled of gone off milk or yoghurt but it still took me that long time to figure out what was happening. When she fed she would sometimes end up with milk in her armpits, behind her ears, under her chin etc.. Lovely!

Maybe I shouldn't describe washing her as top and tailing - it was more a quick rub down in the sink including armpits and skin folds.
