12 yr old DD and forged notes going to school.

Hi there, can anyone give me any advice?

DD is 12 and in year 8 secondary school.

I've just been into her room to hoover, and found, under the bed, a note in very neat writing to say " x hasn't done her homework because 'we' have a lot on our minds" (amongst the usual polite comments) and signed with my DH's name.

I'm sure the note I have found is a practice note and she may have taken one to school as the signature is practiced several times on it.

I'm due to pick her up at 2pm today for a dentist appointment, what do I say?

I don't want to get cross as I don't think it will help. She is usually mature, sensible, hard working and never been any bother.

Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

"and haven't provided her with the equipment she needs" I might add, just to make it clearer. It was an arty type homework.

Forging notes is a common secondary school past time -just speak to her directly and make sure you see her homework timetable or homework diary to see what homework she should have.

Will her teacher recognise this as such? It was a very 'childlike' note in content.

Cheeky monkey! Grin Yep, I remember forging notes to get me out of PE. Just let her know that you're onto her, and keep an eye on her planner.

I am sure the school would have been in contact by now if she was regularly producing notes.

Dsd1 did this a while ago. All we did was make her aware that we knew she'd done it and told her that if she did it again we would make her admit what she'd done and apologise to her form teacher! That was a big enough threat to make her never do anything like that again (I hope!). She was so embarrassed that she'd been caught out. I actually think it's quite a common thing for them to do and I'd be surprised if the teachers fall for it.
