What is your 5 month old baby's routine?

My DD has a good routine for feeding and night time sleeping but daytime sleeps are all over the place.

She has just moved into her own bedroom and no longer fits in moses basket. Up until recently she was sleeping downstairs in this. Lately she has been falling asleep wherever she is (bouncy chair, playmat, pushchair, car, my arms!) and I'd like to get her to start sleeping in her cot but she's not as keen even though she goes down perfectly at night. I'm not really sure how many naps or how long she should be having??

Believe it or not she is my third but I just can't remember what i did with the others. I also need her routine to fit around school runs.

Any ideas/ experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I think two long-ish naps (1-2 hours), one in the morning, one around lunchtime/early afternoon, is normal around this age. And, depending on how long they can stay up for at a time, possibly a shorter nap late afternoon.

Of course - all babies are different and I know some who have a lot less than this!

Hi, my 5 month old is losely on EASY. Until a few weeks ago he would only nap on me/in moving buggy so i have started putting him in his cot for daytime naps. The first few times he protested and I stayed with him holding his hand etc. Now he is generally Ok if I time it right and I just put his cot mobile on and leave. The trouble is he only naps for 40 minutes so he naps 4 times a day! Routine roughly is:

5-6 (I wish it was later!) wake, feed
7ish nap for 40 minutes and then feed, about 1 and a half hours of awake time, watch for sleepy cues, nap, repeat until bedtime which is supposed to be 7 but normally more like half 6 because he is so knackered he won't stay up longer. He then wakes for feeds 2/3 hourly all night.

I will watch this thread with interest, don't suppose that has really helped but good luck! Oh and not all naps are in the cot or we would never go out! Smile

my older two used to have a short nap in the morning of about 45mins-1.h hrs and then a longer one of between 1.5-2.5 hrs in the afternoon.

however 6m dc3's daytime 'routine' is all over the place, not helped by his natural desire to kip at 2.30 being interrupted by the school run. I am trying to introduce a post lunch sleep from about 1pm-ish, trying being the operative word.

Will be stealing ideas off your thread, NickNacks!

Fortunately his saving grace is he does sleep at night but it was a 5am wake-up call today, but did go into his own room first time last night & is teething miserably.

Ideally the 2 longish naps is what i would like to aim for but she's more like your DS, lots33 lol

She wakes at 7am, fed, dressed and school run. Even if she falls asleep in pushchair she wakes as soon as we get back home!

I'm thinking of putting her down in cot then, would be about 9.15am? Then she feeds again at 11am and I have started giving her a little bit of baby rice (SHOCK HORROR HANG ME!!!!!!!) Grin about 12.30pm so she could probably go down after that and be up by 3 to go to school again.

This is my ideal plan but I'm sceptical. I'm lucky she is sleeping all night 7-7 although FF so this would be why. I don't even mind if she's one that doesn't need much sleep but she's getting quite grumpy so i think she must need more/better quality daytime sleep.

Nothing wrong with weaning at 5m, every child is different, the 6m guide is just that, just a guide, and mine have weaned either side of that. Good luck with the baby rice, mine started with butternut squash - v orange!

mong??? I meant LONG!

Mine wakes at 7-7.30 for school run, we have a 50 min round trip to school so she sleeps for about half an hour in the car. Then she goes down at about 12 (awake) and sleeps for 2 1/2 a 3 hrs, she may have another half hour nap at about 5/6, then goes to bed at 8pm.
Basically one long nap in the afternoon with cat naps in-between.
The first few times I put her down awake she cried but I did controlled crying, within a week she didn't cry at all, just drops off!

Thanks. I decided to start with white stuff as DD has been known to be a bit of a puker (reflux) and I'll end up with lots of orange clothes!
