TV's in children's bedrooms...insanity or lifesaver?

I have to standup and admit I think allowing children a TV in their bedroom IS insanity. OK I see how some children might have the sense to not have it on at all hours of the night but not many.... They are children after all! I have had way too many children in my class with dark circles under their eyes due to late night TV watching and even one lad who regulalry fell asleep in class as he was so exhausted.
Bedtime is for sleeping, not entertainment...

I appreciate I could just be a mad old bat who needs to move with the times.... Would be interested to hear others views as I seem to be in the minority here

I hate TVs in bedrooms and we've only ever had one 'family' TV - however am seriously thinking of getting a second TV (to go in another downstairs room) as it is not always possible to find something everyone wants to watch together and I am sat here in a spare bedroom using the PC (no lap top either Grin) whilst DS (10) takes over the sitting room so I agree that it is not quite so easy as children get older ......... as others have said, depends if you have space for another 'family area'.

How many adults have TVs in their bedrooms out of interest? I would hate that.

I don't like TVs in any bedroom, to be honest (mostly because they look hideous Grin)

We decided many years ago that none of our DC would be allowed a TV in their bedrooms before they had finished their GCSEs. We are still sticking to that!

DS3 is 17 and for Christmas he had a new TV/dvd player. He can now get all freeview progs.

DS4 is 15. He still isn't allowed any TV, but he does listen to the radio. He puts Test Match Special on very early! He is also allowed to watch DVDs on an old TV in his room. He does like films and detective series.

DS5 is 14. He reads listens to music and plays on his PSP. He we do have a spare TV which he could use for DVDs but he isn't bothered.

We do have a TV in our room. I watch in there when DH and DS watch something I'm not
interested in.

INSANITY! Even I can't sleep if I have a TV in my room. I leave it on all night and stay up watching utter crap and I'm 28!

DH and I have a TV in our room but I only watch the odd programme on it if we have house guests (usually MIL) watching something different on the main TV downstairs (and I need a little break from her/them!). It's attached to a DVD and DH and I occasionally watch naughty DVDs on it Shock Blush Grin. DD's only two and I don't anticipate her ever having a TV in her room but she sometimes watches CBeebies in our bedroom if I'm doing chores upstairs or doing paperwork in the office.

I don't have a problem with TV per se (even though we are too busy to watch much TV) but as DD is an only child and we already have two TVs in the house I don't see her "needing" one in her room.
