Hi All

DD is 14 months and has just started the worrying habit of 'head banging' if she is in a trantrum/not getting her own way etc.

Example tonight, she took some Olbas oil off her Dad's bed side table, and I took it off her. She started the throw a tantrum and I just left her to it, like I normally do (providing she is in a safe environment).

Then she followed me out into the hall and started banging her head of the wall. I stopped her and told her not to be silly, whilst trying not to really engage with her over it or give a reaction. Then she started doing it again on the door frame, but much more gently, so I think laterly it was for effect.

Please tell me this is just a phase she is going through as she's frustrated or whatever. I'm just concerned she will hurt herself! (and break my nose, which has come a cropper with her forehead a couple of times already!)

It's a phase, especially as she's already sussed that it hurts more on the door frame than the wall, little minx. Grin Ignore, ignore, ignore unless she's in danger. Foreheads are very tough!

it's a phase. Lots of kids do it. Ignore or move her somewhere like her cot/bed where she can do less damage if you're worried about it.

DS2 has just had a phase of that at the same age. They really will not do themselves real damage. Bruises yes though! I have just been walking off and leaving him to it. He seems to have stopped now but we have had a few months of bruises on forehead...

Thank goodness, thank you for your replies. I think she might be destined for drama school bless her!

DS2 did it as well. Then would bellow at how much he had hurt himself! I got out of sight asap once he started his strop. When I wasnt there for effect he didnt do it as much.

you know, it's amazing how soon my little headbanger learnt that the floor is hard, the carpet is far nicer and how its not much fun if mummy steps over you and walks off Grin

Apparently, I was also a headbanger. It hasnt affected me. tic

ds2 is also 14months, and slaps himself upside the head when he's told off/doesn't get his own way. He also growls, and pulls a stunning grimace face.

QueenSconetta · 15/01/2011 21:33

Lol, the faces they pull are hilarious. DD does a fabulous Steptoe and cats bum face.

normal, normal, normal!!!

Enjoy itHmm....you have yet to face the torture of the sophisticated junior school whinging "..but everyone else's Mum says they can...."

stretchmark · 15/01/2011 22:19

lol my ds (15 months) does that too, and if he's in the middle of the room with no walls to use he'll throw himself onto the floor, wiggle up so he's on all fours then head butt the floor, or sitting up he'll lunge himself forward and head butt the floor(makes me envious coz i'm no where near that flexible!)

I just ignore it when we're at home..and cringe like hell when we have company!!
