Hi have just started using my real nappies (totbots flexitots) and just washed my first stash, there's still some bf poo on a couple of them, what am I doing wrong? I washed at 40oC is this too low? just used a eco washing tablet. Would appreciate any suggestions thanks

Do you use a liner?

I wash mine at 40c with non-bio powder and nappisan. Sometimes there's a bit of staining though.

Sunshine gets bf poo stains out - not much of that around at the moment though Grin

Vanish will work if you are worried about them - they don't hurt though.

moonunitalpha Yes, I do use a liner, it was just the sides that were stained.

Ah well I guess I will just have to put up with them till summer. Silly me though, was just a bit :( at my lovely washed nappies still being dirty! Thanks for the replies.

I've found fleece liners are much better at protecting the nappy than paper ones (much better at keeping the baby dry too) but not 100%! The stains do come out with repeated washing though.

Pingpong · 16/01/2011 10:59

I do a cold rinse first and then wash at 60. I didn't bother with liners for breastfed poo as it's so watery it gets round the edges of paper and fleece liners but once you start weaning onto solids fleece or paper liners make dealing with poo a lot easier.
Sunshine is best for getting rid of stains but sadly not much around these days in the UK anyway.

Hello Mumsnerves!!! I've used a sunny windowsill and got a few stains out that way if that helps at all.

PorkChopSter · 17/01/2011 20:20

No point in using liners until you hit solids after weaning. The only thing is sunlight, it doesn't take long and it doesn't need to be bright.

PorkChopSter · 17/01/2011 20:20

Alternatively yes, brightly coloured fleece liners means you can't see the staining!

I've been using persil small and mighty and a scoop of Bambio Mio wash and everything is coming out bright white. DD's boo is the brightest orange at the moment so I am impressed it's all coming out lol!

Thanks everyone for replies, I don't have enough of the small reusables at the moment so can only dry with dryer so can't use sunshine so just got to ignore the stains which aren't really that bad! :)

Don't know if this will be helpful as don't use cloth nappies, but for escaped poos I chuck clothes into a bucket with Mothercare nappy soak, and then spray with vanish before sticking them in the wash. That works v v well.
