Did you go overdue? How many days over?

Hi could you just humour a very fed up pregnant lady and answer me these couple of questions!?

Today Im 10 days over my due date and starting to tear my hair out.

Would love it if you could reply to this thread with how many days over you went and a quick run down of how you went into labour - it would be great to know too if your baby was posterior (back to back) as Im sure thats whats holding my labour up and Im losing hope of it happening naturally which is irrational I know, I just want some perspective

Thanks

I mean you have no idea how late your first would have been... and you have had things "done" and therefore don't know when you conceived exactly...

Beccaroll · 02/09/2003 18:53

I do know that I conceived late on in my cycle but I thought that had been covered when my dates were a week later than my "dates" - the EDD I have had all the way through was from early scans and a week later than my LMP.

I must sound so neurotic! Im not - honest! Chatting about it and informing myself has passed the day - another day down !!

I think Beccarol should defo see midwife or doctor before induction date - ask for a scan too if you are worried about placenta etc. Also you can try taking caulophyllum (homeopathy) to bring on contractions. I'm not certain about doses here so look it up. Also acupuncture apparently works wonders if you want to avoid induction. I'm 36 weeks myself and would not want to be induced if could possibly help it. Good luck

4star - caullophyllum 200 or acupuncture or reflexology or a sweep are ALL inductions - they are designed to kick start your labour (OK they may not be as dramatic as pessaries but even those don't always work). The reason why I generally advocate against an induction is because it is asking your body to get going in one way but your endorphins (natural pain killers) are not ready ! This has led me to see women having un-necessarily painful labour from the very start and of course in a first time mum this may mean a VERY long painful labour - then the epidural gets to be what the mother begs for... and the rest either goes well or (IM Professional O) not so well...
On the other hand I have been supporting women who had unbelievably long labours and did it all without any pain relief (including no gas and air) but it all started naturally and they kept on top of it all.... of course they ahd not been induce - the last one had a 10lbs,

Don't worry BeccaRoll, Zebras not mad shes talking about me. Yes I do look ready to pop, I'm expecting a 9lber, although not due till Friday. I was overdue last time and ended up being induced which I definatley don't want again, although I may ask for a sweep this time. Good luck!

Bekki · 02/09/2003 19:56

Have you had any strong Braxton Hicks' yet or a show? Sorry to be nosy but I was induced at 41 weeks with high bp which I felt quite happy about at the time because I hadn't had one small sign of things happening naturally. This time I've had a lot of signs and so I am quite hopeful that it may happen. I know how important it is to want to know whether you can labour 'normally'. It sounds ridiculous but I'm always impressed when I hear of women going into labour naturally as these days they induce you for any small reason.

Beccaroll · 02/09/2003 20:01

Ive had various "snot like" things (SORRY TMI) but not sure if anything has been a true show - becuase of the bleeding I have had throughout the pregnancy I often have bloody discharge (again sorry!!)

As for braxton hicks - yep, been feeling tightenings that have become progressively stronger and sometimes fairly painful. Also been having some crampy backache type feelings but things tend to die down as soon as they start to feel like something!

Ill keep my fingers crossed that you go into labour naturally

Thanks and whatever happens you'll be in birth announcements within a week. I have to remind myself that the plan was to have a baby not an ecstatic, dreamy hippy birth.

My midwife asked me if it looked like snot. As far as I'm concerned snot comes in all textures and colours, so its a stupid comparison to make. Also I felt inclined to shout 'NO'! As I have a real aversion to snot. Discharge, blood, poo I'm fine with but show me a kid with a runny nose and I may throw up.

Its driving me mad already analyzing every twinge and contraction so you must be quite fed up by now. Its almost impossible to take your mind of it I know. I'm sorry I'm no help here, you're probably coping alot better than I am and I'm not even due yet!

Claireandrich · 02/09/2003 20:20

I was 12 days overdue when I was taken in for induction; DD was finally born me CS at 14 overdue. I was definietly ready for her to be born!

I am sure I have recently heard of someone going about 23 days OD before giving birth naturally.

Beccaroll · 02/09/2003 20:38

On another website I post on a lady refused induction and gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby at 43+6!! I applaud her but I would be sooooooooooooooooooo sick of it all by then LOL

Bekki your right in that the goal is a lovely healthy baby not a dreamy labour - its hard to keep your head above the sand isnt it when your feeling like this.

We'll get there very soon and will soon forget this time (in fact we will be longing for it again as at least now we can sit and post on mumsnet and get some sleep at night!)

Beccaroll, sorry to hear that you're so fed up, but not long to go now. My dd was born 10 days late. I'd went to see the Dr when I was 4 days overdue and he did a sweep, I had no idea what a sweep was at the time but now I do. I felt quite ill for the rest of the day afterwards and he told me after he'd done the sweep that I'd probably deliver within 24 hours. How wrong he was. I went into labour in the early hours of the 10th day of being overdue, if that makes any sense. My waters broke at home and I went into hospital where I was nearly 4 cms and they decided to keep me in. Dd started off in the ROL position but moved round and got stuck in the posterior position. We had a very long labour which I won't go into as it's another thread in itself but suffice to say I had a healthy happy little girl, well worth the wait in the end.
Incidently since then I've discovered if I work out my due date from when I had probably conceived she was actually born more or less bang on time.

misdee · 02/09/2003 20:58

i know someone who went to around 44 weeks with her baby. she refused to be induced, was mointered closely, and gave birth to a perfectly helathy baby girl.

pupuce · 02/09/2003 21:28

Beccaroll, you say : the goal is a lovely healthy baby not a dreamy labour
Well Can I say that an induction does necessarily not lead to a dreamy labour nor does it necessarily lead you to a healthy baby ! Some babies react badly to inductions too !
I do know what you mean though but because a MW tells you that you should be induce ?now? because baby might die and all?. Is playing on your fear about not having a healthy baby! That does NOT mean she right and that does mean your labour is very likely to be more difficult, more managed and not as pleasant for the baby. The reason some of us keep encouraging women to go ?natural? is because it is what is easiest and best for your baby and your body ! Of course sometimes medical intervention is needed?. But not nearly as often as when it is performed !

sliverx2 · 04/09/2003 18:08

sorry but i'v never been late with both pg's, i use to ran up and down the stairs when i had enogh use to start me off within 4 hours both times, may be you could try that

Hilary · 05/09/2003 16:29

Ds1 was 10 days overdue and came the night before I was due to be induced. Quick labour but he was back to back.

Ds2 was 13 days overdue and I was induced but it was a good experience. 2 hours of labour, only half an hour of which hurt.

I didn't want to be induced as I'd heard of days' long labours but I'd be happy to have it done again.
