The whole family has been invited to a wedding in May (which for us lot it means a good 3 hour journey),so we have all booked a room in the hotel on the night of the wedding, some of the family are booking a few nights - anyway it's already been mentioned that they cannot wait to take my dd swimming in the hotel pool, which (provided dd seems okay) I'm rather pleased about - it will give me and DP a nice break for a while.

Anyway, DD will be almost 7 months and I'm not sure about swimming pool etiquette for babies...are there special nappies to go beneath a costume? (assuming she needs a nappy) or do i just put a normal one on her anyway?

What do I do? I dont want to turn up to the pool (in what is a very posh hotel - too posh for me lol) without the correct gear.

Flame me for being daft, it's a genuine question - my first child and we've never been swimming....thought you guys might know

thefarside - you've made me smile - did you think that babies went swimming without nappies and it was just good luck that pools aren't full of poo ?Grin

In public pools I've always found that they have changing cubicles with baby seats or those plastic changing like tables that you can safely leave the baby in while you change but I'd still recommend wearing something like a tracksuit so you can get dressed as quickly as possible.

breastfeeding is a great way to warm up baby if you breastfeed. Although perhaps some people might go Hmm at you, I take off all clothing from my babies, wrap them in a nice warm snuggly towel, feed them, dry them while they feed, then dress them immediately, get me dressed then go straight home to shower/bath, in your case that would be to your room. It is often all just a bit too much for my little ones to shower in a cold shower cubicle/open shower area after the swim.

Scarlet - I guess I just thought babies wore a normal nappy which would get progressively soggier and looser the longer they stayed in the pool ...

Highly recommend one of these - keeps them nice and warm esp as they can't really swim about much themselves.

We have something very similar but from here

Try to encourage splashing with legs and arms as it'll help keep muscles warm and stop baby getting cold too quickly.
