as a result of the bulkiness of cloth nappies that your dd/ds achieved some of the motor development slightly later than their friends in disposibles? My DD is v happy in Tots Bots but is much slower to roll over onto her front than her friends in disposibles. I know she's fine but am just curious.....I was in terries when I was a baby so am sure that our parents experienced the same thing....Has anyone else found this?

My dd started rolling at 11 weeks, and started doing it when she was totally naked, so it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference what nappies she wore. None of our friends used terries, and the age that they rolled varied hugely - the first was 11 weeks, the last was 9 months. I think it has to do more with the fact that all babies develop at their own pace than the nappies they use.

If you really think that the nappies are making her slower, try leaving her out of nappies and letting her kick and roll - but I honestly don't think it will make much difference (just watch someone come along now and say that there's scientific proof that it does ... )

Cheers wigwambam. I really didn't want to post this but it has been playing a little bit on my mind. I know that they all develop at their own rates and your message has put my mind at rest.
Didn't want to sound like a pushy mother......!!

I don't think it makes any difference, it's another of those wide variation things...

Try not to worry too much, there really is an enormous variation in the times that they do things. How old is she?

Gosh you lot are good at replying quickly!! She's 4.5 mths now and rolled onto her side at 10 weeks. However this has recently stopped and been replaced by her new obsession of staring at her hands and fingers (quite cute really!). She has lots of opportunities to roll but generally with her nappy on. Should I just stop thinking about it and assume she'll do it again at her own pace?

Yes, you should stop thinking about it and let her get on with it at her own pace. 4.5 months is still early to be rolling.

Don't get sucked in by the competitive mummies who constantly compare who's doing what and who isn't - she'll get there when the time's right for her.

Right that's it - it's out of my mind! Thanks for putting my mind at rest.....I love her in her clothies and was quite happy to let her do things at her own pace but was getting a little tired of having to marvel at how early everyone else's babies were doing things.....sure you know what I mean!

I think babies in cloth sit earlier because the massive bum helps them not fall over. Think about all the Grandparents who have insisted we could sit up much earlier than our children...

It must be the nappies, it couldn't possibly be selectove memory
