and can you recommend where to get one from? So many colours, styles etc and sleep deprived me can't decide! Is it true that green amber's the best?

Ours have come from Bums N Roses, and I've been very happy with them.

I though darker amber was better, but I don't think there's much difference. We've had a honey coloured one, and now a multicoloured one and they've both worked for us.

Gaelicsheep - I have just ordered the Baroque style one for my ds (20 weeks).

He's not teething yet but hands are in mouth a lot and he bites down so hard on teething ring that it sometimes hurts him.

Anyway, I dont really understand how they work but there are many positive reviews on Amazon so I'm going to give it a try.

Oh, much cheaper on Amazon than Bums N Roses.

earthworm · 07/01/2011 14:12

It's up to you of course but please do read the small print - most companies selling these necklaces online caution against leaving them on unattended children so you may not get the sleep benefits you are looking for (a choking and strangulation hazard of course) and some websites also say that EU regulations are such that they are unsuitable for children under 3 years old.

gaelicsheep · 07/01/2011 14:32

It's helping her with the general miseries that I'm after really earthworm. There are so many factors affecting her (non) sleeping that I'm definitely not looking for miracles at night time. Although we do co-sleep (her choice not mine) so she would never be unattended if we did leave it on at night. Smile

bums n roses. dd4 has little orange beads, ds has the cognac ones. not put his on yet as he is nly 4days old.

naturalbaby · 07/01/2011 14:38

i got the mum and baby set off amazon, mainly so i could earn nectar points! i read that dark amber works better i think, ours has a mixture of dark and light.
we stopped giving ds2 calpol practically every day for teething when we got it and have never had any issues with it - he seemed oblivious to it till recently (now 18months) and big brother has been asking for one!

MoonUnitAlpha · 07/01/2011 14:38

How do they work?

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 07/01/2011 14:38

dd4 wears her all the time. used to pop it on her ankle at night but now just leave it on. they are easily snappable as threaded on silk, and each bead is knotted.

earthworm · 07/01/2011 14:47

That's a good question moonunitalpha, as amber has to be heated to about 200 degrees to release anything.

gaelicsheep · 07/01/2011 15:15

Well I'm usually a sceptic about these types of things, but right now - with this baby - I will try anything. So many people seem to swear by them - and amber has been used for thousands of years - I reckon there must be something in it.

I was the biggest skeptic going. But it definitely does something. Might be placebo effect, but I don't really care!

Firawla · 08/01/2011 02:14

there are loads on ebay shops, i got mine from there as price was alot better. not sure whether its working or not, sometimes i think it is having some effect but ds still has a difficult time with teething, even though he is wearing it, maybe just reduce it a little bit, not sure.
didn't know about the dark amber being better, didnt think to check what his is and am not even sure now, its just orangey browny colour

bruxeur · 08/01/2011 02:17

Sacrificing animals and humans was used for thousands of years. Apparently the spring still comes around if you forget.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/01/2011 06:55

Haha Bruxeuer. My thoughts exactly but yours were put so much better.

gaelicsheep · 08/01/2011 20:43

Well you may mock Grin but I've ordered one. At least I'll feel like I'm doing something. I will report back in a few weeks.
