Sudocrem or Petroleum Jelly - what do you use?

Once again my mother has huffed and puffed that I'm not using Sudocrem on my dd's bottom, I told her that it was my decision blah blah blah but she was still a little put out that once again I've not taken her advice.

Anyway, I use Petroleum Jelly - what do you all use? And those of you who use Sudocrem - don't you find it really messy??

I'm not in the habit of running everything past my mother but things just seem to come up in conversation and I always feel guilty that I seem to have gone my own way (for those of you who remember the juice at 11weeks old thread will know what I mean :))

Anyhow, I'd be interested to hear your comments, Thanks

I use nothing at all when bum is nice and rosy, weleda nappy change cream when slightly red, metanium when angry red.

cupcakecookie · 07/01/2011 11:21

I used vaseline, though not at every nappy change. Sudocream is brill for a sore bum

I am the same as mousymouse except I use ASDA Zinc & Castor Oil cream when slighty red.....everything else is exactly the same!!

fresh air. kamilosan if it's looking a bit sore when teething. we use cloth nappies though so layers of nappy cream aren't a good idea for the nappies, and not necessary with frequent changes and plenty of fresh air.

I love sudocrem I think it has masses of uses and although my kids are grown up we still have a tub at home .... You'd be surprised what it can do and where we use it . However always found metanium wizard for nappy rash :-) sudocrem was too moist for that imho

I have to slather on sudocreme and even then it didnt work. Stopped using it. Vaseline made my baby's rash much worse and i don't like the consistency - i can never seem to clean it off it just clings to my fingers. Best cream (although its more of a balm because of the beeswax) is tiny troubles healing salve by mama nature. Its much more expensive but you use much less of it.

I don't use anything day to day, just a bit of yellow metanium on the rare occasion there's a sore bit. Just not necessary, and reduces the absorbency of cloth nappies. I have a 2.4yo and a 14wk old and my metanium tube is still 2/3s full despite DH's inability to understand what a THIN layer looks like, so it's really not needed often.

Sudocrem every night after bath and never had nappy rash with either Smile Love the stuff

minipie · 05/10/2016 11:51

Nothing day to day. If it's looking red (rare), nappy free time and then a smear of sudocrem. I have 2 DDs and we are still using the tiny sample pot that came in DD1's Bounty pack.

I use both, vaseline as a barrier and then sudocrem as second layer. It works magic when used together and cleans off easily
