I have been quite ill the last few weeks .. much better today .. colding leading to asthma (which first got when pg 2 years ago) then chest infection then well lots more

anyhoo

my mother said to me: "you don't have asthma"

"why not?" says I

"because you don't wheeze and I know because your sister has asthma"

"you don't have to wheeze its just one sign, anyway dr just said when I'm better to keep taking the preventer inhaler to ensure not such a serious in future"

to which my mother says: "you know when I was young my mum was told I needed glasses but I never got them and my sight is fine. You don't want to start relying on things like that"

snurk

(must be like your mum because I'm afraid I sort of agree with her. Dh had been taking a preventor for years when I met him, without having an attack for ages. He stopped taking it 5 years ago and is still attack free. He stopped taking it because if it really wasn't necessary it wasn't doing him any good - it's a steroid. Not sure about the glasses theory though...)

My mum has always told me i didnt have asthma but that i was asthmatic!

Although last night when we happened to be out at dinner, mysteriously, she mentioned both me and my DB had asthma as babies (she has ALWAYS said my DB had it but never me).

She is mad though. I ignore most of what she says now. She regularly says she doesnt know how she coped with us 4 (although my youngest DB was born after a 6 yr gap between us) and she had no car and washing machine. Her memory is shot - our nan lived with us 5 days a week..........

cupcakes I stopped taking mine in January because I had pregnancy-induced asthma .. baby born May .. last problem at Christmas when at Mum's house (change of environment) no problems since so I though what the hell, its gone

big mistake .. the becotide is a localised drug designed to strengthen lungs before an attack .. if the dr says taking it for the rest of my life will stop me feeling the way I've been the last few weeks (I've been incable of eating, breathing, looking after own kids and even .. mumsnetting ) then I think it is worth a couple of puffs in the morning

sounds like you do need it then!! Keep puffing!

my mum would say, in this situation:
What a big fuss people make these days!
But actually I think I've got it too.
but much much WORSE...

I think you get to a certain age and you can only otherwise you would just weep.

or commit matricide.
