I've been breastfeeding my LO exclusively up till a fortnight ago when I introduced a bottle of formula for his late evening feed. I've been giving him 150ml which goes down well but just wondered what amounts anyone else gives...the 150ml is the water before powder added - It's more like 180ml mixed up.

Without meaning to sound sarcastic, whatever the back if the formula packet says! They're all different depending on the formula.

Ps. There is a special breast and bottle feeding section to MN. Lots of info there!

150ml sounds around about right.

You should put your water in first and measure that to the line. Then add the number of scoops on the box. I think 150ml is about 6 scoops normally. But the feed = the amount of water you put in, disregard the level once the powder is added.

Most of the boxes do usually give a rough idea of how much they should take per feed. But my DD never did read the tin. She was always on way more than it suggested!

If he drinks the whole 150 ml then try a bit more. If he leaves some then reduce it a bit.

Also, if a baby drains a full bottle they may probably need more.

I always found it easier if the baby left 1oz or so in the bottom of the bottle as you know they have had enough and once they start draining the bottle again you can up the amount of formula by another 1oz

Just read your thread title and wondered how many mother in laws you could fit in a bottle

OP - goat's milk is not approved for use in babies under 1 year old in the UK see this leaflet.

Have a look in that leaflet for info on FFing.

god - i've made a major cock up. i gave my first dc growing up goats milk formula from a year old and it was great so when i had my second dc I looked for an infant version and ordered what i thought was for 0-12 month olds. even though this is what I was advised I was buying there is nothing to say it is for babies - having read the leaflet(thanks tabouleh) I can see that there would not be a goats milk formula sold for babies as it's nopt even approved in the uk. BlushI feel like such an idiot for putting my baby's health at risk - had a very sleepless night as a result.Sad Thanks for all your replies - I'm off out today to forage for another suitable formula - thank god it was just one bottle a day.

It's only been one feed per day for the last fortnight and all the rest have been breastfeeds which will have been doing him a lot of good, so I wouldn't feel too bad about it.
