are 'movement monitors' a god idea for babies?

He he..i'm really 'doing the rounds' in various threads today, as i have suddenly panicked about what to buy etc for our upcoming arrival.
I am wondering if the movement monitoring pads that go in the cot are worth getting..or are they just something for overly anxious types. The wee one will be in our room for the first few months, and as our flat is all on one level I will be close during the day.

Recus techniques do differ for babies and I think it is really worthwhile getting some training - if only for your own peace of mind. In the hospital we were in there was a recus officer who gave training to all the parents who had babies in the SCBU. Charlie had to be recuscitated while we were in hospital but luckily we've not had any follow up incidents since he's been home. We use an angelcare monitor.

You could try asking your midwife if any recus training is available at your hospital or if she can refer you somewhere.

I think that was how I felt H2D

We also used the Babysense II and had no false alarms. Only went off when we forgot to switch it off when we picked him up in the night.
For me it was priceless as it gave me real peace of mind.

We bought the Angelcare monitor, but never used the sensor pad.We stopped using the monitor altogether when dd1 was about 6 months old, because we could hear her anyway if she cried.

We have the tommee tippee one and I love it. Definetly one of my best buys. Its so reasuring to turn over in bed and just look for the flashing light.
The alarm has only gone off if we forget to turn it off before getting DD out of her cot. Shes 16 months and I still use it.
