Reusing "flushable" (Bambino mio) liners

We've been using washable nappies and flushable liners for over a year now, but recently have had trouble with the drains. I'm suspicious that the liners are not really as flushable as they claim and may be the cause and I'm wondering about trying to cut down on the number we use without giving up using them altogether, as DS, though weaned, does tend to have rather icky sticky poo which is otherwise v. difficult to get off the nappies (I blame a combination of teething and his banana addiction).

I'm sure someone told me it's possible to wash the liners if they're only wet and reuse them once or twice. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Bambino mio are the only liners I can buy easily round here. They seem to work well except for my suspicion that they are responsible for the blocked drains. On the other hand I don't want to shove a load in the washing machine and end up killing that when they disintegrate and block all the pipes.

No too sure about BM liners in particular but I often reuse paper liners. Best to stick them in a mesh bag in the washing machine - I try to but I really should practise what I preach a bit more.

I reuse paper liners - they last pretty well just being flung in the washing machine with the wet nappies. Some don't make it but I find if nursery always use new ones (3 x 3 days a week), I always have enough used liners in the nappy chest that I never need to start a new roll myself!

I use Imse Vimse from Babykind.

I have used the Bambio Mio ones and think that they are actually better after being washed!
I wash most of mine even the pooey ones if I can just flick it down the toilet.

A friend of mine had blocked pipe problems due to paper liners - the 'sewer' man actually came knocking on all the doors to find out who was the culprit! So start putting them in the bin rather than down the toilet (once you've shaken as much poo off as possible!). I used to re-use wet paper liners once or twice, sometimes with a small rip so just put this at the front. I now use fleece washable liners alot as the poo doesn't stick to them (and also she now does quite a few on the potty which helps, just to put it in context).

I started using bambino mio flushable liners, but actually moved to fleece washable ones and found them much better - they keeps DS lovely and dry.

I'm sure I did.

Oh yes, I always washed and re-used liners unless they were really gross (runny teething poo yuck). Just flick the poo off and bung in the nappy pail.

Like MUA we use fleece liners this time round, much nicer.

When older most babies are more 'regular', you can just use a liner if you're expecting a poo, or when out and about, and a fleece liner the rest of thetime

I used to wash and reuse Bambino Mio liners. Like you say only got 2 maybe 3, uses though.
I never flushed them as we have a cesspool. They compost (not soiled ones though).

The Bambino Mio site does say that the flushable linerswill block old or damaged drains.

Where do you get fleece liners from - they sound nice and soft!

bumpybecky · 02/01/2011 21:03

don't buy fleece liners, they're expensive! just buy a meter of fleece (market / fabric shop / eBay) and cut into liner sized bits :) not as big as the flushable liners, about the same size as a washable booster pad

don't worry too much if your baby has pretty patterns / colours on his bottom if you use patterned fleece, it only lasts a few washes!
