How much do you pay yours? Just wondering as we have one coming for the first time in ages to look after my 10 year old DT's.

our nanny/babysitter charges us £30 per night with our 2 kids! if we get home past midnight we give her a little extra!

As a Nanny in London-I got paid anywhere between £10-12 per hour. In the midlands with 'Sitters ' agency ( you have to have 2 yrs Childcare exp and have an interview.ref checks and a CRB and Paed 1st aid.) its around £5.70 per hour. I pay my teenage sitter £5ph with a minimum of 4 hours.

I too work for 'Sitters' agency and am based in SE London. The rate varies from 5.90 to 6.90 an hour depending on day of week. We also get paid a minimum of 4 hours work even if you come home before then to make it worth our while coming out. HTH

How long is a piece of string? It entirely depends on the person, their experience qualifications and how much you expect them to do. Is it a case of sitting watching TV or do they need to supervise bedtime etc (which is probable, given the age of your DTs).

NeverendingStoryteller · 17/12/2010 20:06

We pay our 15 year old neighbour £5 an hour and we let her have free internet access and UK calls, some snacks and drinks. However, she doesn't actually have to do anything much for this rate - we go out once the kids are in bed - so all she has to do is sit there and watch TV while they snooze away.

I would probably pay more like £7 / £8 an hour for a teenager if they had to actually do something!

£6.50 for an adult as its not worth their will - time they travel up and for a few hours its got to be around £20.
I have a lady who has a good creative job but needs to top up her income. She works with children and has all checks.
