Sitting up with cloth

Looking at old photos i saw that DD1 and DS were sitting up at about 6 mths and they were both in disposables until 18ths when i switched to cloth. I know all babies are different but DD2 (in cloth nappies now) still isnt sitting up at 7.5mths. Watching her i think it could be her nappy putting her off balence.

I tried putting her in less bluky nappies and tried a terry with a wrap but still no luck :( she can sit for a while in the bath with no nappy Confused Has anyone else found their babies sitting up later in cloth? DP is convinced its her nappy and that she wont sit up in them, i reminded him we can sit up and we wore terries as babies lol :)

Any help will be great Grin

That's an interesting question. My dd is now nearly 9 months, and seemed to be a relatively late sitter, she could sit in a fairly wobbly way at just over 7 months. She wears bumgenius, with the doubled over bit at the back. I'd never thought about cloth having an impact on this, this is my first child, so I have no comparison. I suppose it is possible, as they can't feel the floor through their buttocks, a bit like walking in bare feet vs shoes, but I would think the delay, if any, would only be slight.

She can now sit very confidently, and can crawl backwards (not yet forwards), so I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use cloth on any future dc.

My experience is the opposite - all 3 have sat up young, DC3 at 4.5months, and they've all been in cloth since birth. I'd heard it said that cloth is bulkier and more supportive so they sat younger but obviously not always.
Friends DD is 9days younger than my DC3 (6 months) and is only just sitting while he is bum shuffling and pushing himself backwards on his tummy and generally terrifying me :o
Sitting early doesn't mean much though, neither of my first 2 walked before a year, DD was nearly 18months when walking was preferred to crawling

Nope, haven't noticed this - my DS2 (7 months) has been siting for a couple of months, he's very steady.

nope, i was convinced cloth helped my lot sit up!!! bigger, more solid base to keep them upright!

they all crawled and walked early too, so don't think it's a nappy issue at all

Nope mine was sitting up in cloth by 18 weeks or so I think.

I think it's just that every baby is different - my DS (in cloth from birth) has been sitting unaided since before 5 months. I don't think his nappies had anything to do with it!

DD2 was in cloth and the only thing I found was in a cloth nappy she struggled to roll over, in a dispo she could roll easily. as for sitting she did that easy in either nappy.
My elder 2 tho were in dispos and rolled and sat and walked earlier.

DS wore cloth and sat at 16 weeks if plonked there. Did take longer for him to be able to get himself to sitting though (no idea when Blush) because he couldn't get himself in the right position with a nappy on

Thanks for all your comments :) She is 'army' crawling, shffling on her tummy and can roll over so i thought it maybe the top of the nappy not helping her to stay steady but maybe its just shes not ready yet.

My other 2 in disposables rolled, crawled and walked later but sat up sooner so maybe shes just going down a different route lol.
