I really like it! Boys 10months and just 3. Anyone else do this?? Can anyone recommend any good clothing brands?

DSis and I were sometimes dressed the same or had the same outfit but in a different colour when we were small (18mo between us). As the eldest I absolutely hated it and remember feeling embarrassed when we had to go out like that...

I love it too, my boys are 18 months apart so I sometimes dress them the same, or the same top but in diff colours etc. However DH hates it.

Me and my sister were often put in the same or very similar clothes when growing up and I have to say that we both loved it.

I often do with DS age 2 and 5 when I'm taking them somewhere really busy usually in a 'loud' top eg they have some h&m ones with cartoons all over them. It helps me to keep track of them! Also if one ever gets lost and they need a description I can use the other one as a guide ...... This has never happened though! I'm a bit paranoid about losing them and they are very adventurous!

They also have matching superman pjs from mothercare complete with capes and they love flying round the house being supermen.

Firawla · 14/12/2010 13:19

I do it sometimes, mine are 17 months apart, so find it quite easy to find stuff available in both their sizes as they are in the same age range. I don't do it every day though just now and then

BlueberryPancake · 14/12/2010 14:42

I also have matching superman Tshirts for my boys and they insist on wearing them whenever we go on a trip on an airplane!!! It's very funny, as they insist on flying around the airport, but I also think that if we'd get seperated I could say 'it's a 5 year old with a superman tshirt' and people night remember him. Different if you'd say 'he was wearing a brown t shirt with camouflage trousers'....

Genuine question: If you have baby twins and dress them identically, what happens when one of them pukes, poos or does something that requires a change of outfit but the other baby doesn't need an outfit change?

Incidently, I hate the whole dressing identically thing given that I was the older, less cute part of the duo.

jellybeans · 14/12/2010 17:15

If I dressed my twins the same when they were little (I did it about a quarter or less of the time so they were usually in different)and one was sick, I never changed them into the same!! If I was buying clothes I would try to get simelar outfits in different colours. But sometimes you have to get the same to get a simelar quality. They often have matching coats even at 8 as it is so hard to find decent boys ones waterproof with hood. The rest of their clothes now, except one jumper, are different and they have their own.

My mum dressed me and my sister the same, i cringed looking at pics..and then did it to my kids!!! I don't know why people do it but alot do. I think people like to take prode in their twinship/siblingship. Anyway, it can't be that harmful wearing the same as many kids wear uniforms.

SweetKate · 14/12/2010 18:12

Oh no - horrible. Even my friend who has twin girls dresses them differently and they have different hairstyles (their choice).

There is a photo of me and my cousin at a family wedding wearing identical dresses just different colours. We were about 8. We both hated it at the time and I still hate the photo. Our parents just happened to get the same dress in M&S (height of fashion in those days) and of course when were were hundreds of miles from home on the day of the wedding nothging could be done about it. Still gives me chills thinking about it.

TheYuleLogLady · 14/12/2010 18:18

they will hate you for it when they are old enough to realise they are individuals. and they will destroy any photos of them dressed the same too.

the youngest will especially hate you for ensuring they will be wearing the same outfit for special occasions for around 6 years running.

don't. do. it.

tryingtoleave · 15/12/2010 02:05

I was the first of three girls and my mother occasionally dressed us all the same. I never minded and I think the pictures are quite cute. My younger sister, however, was very unhappy about being forced to wear my hand me downs. So I guess it depends on the children and it is best to just talk to your dcs about what they want.

I was thinking about making matching navy duffle coats for my ds (4) and dd (2) for next winter (hard to find nice coats here) - I think they would like it.

LittlePushka · 15/12/2010 02:14

I do it for special occasions. My boys love it,... though they are both pre-school and very close in age.

I would not do it if they wanted to wear something different. I wore same things as my older sister as a child - I liked being like her and no psychological damage fgrin]

SnowyGonzalez · 15/12/2010 02:52

Dressing one's kids in matching outfits is one of those things I thought I'd understand when I became a parent. Well, I have two kids and still think it's odd.

hatsybatsy · 15/12/2010 13:54

have a boy and a girl so I can't...

there was 5 years between me and my sister and my Mum did occasionally dress us the same - I dind't mind at all!

knitpicker · 15/12/2010 16:10

You need to check out this company www.hannaandersson.com you can dress the whole family in matching outfits, yes Dad, you too!

(Disclaimer - I have never bought here and I never will!)

Sullwah · 15/12/2010 16:17

knitpicker - eghhhhhh - I am not going to be sleeping easy tonight.

I am sorry - but that is just weird and wrong!

JamieLeeCurtis · 15/12/2010 18:56

I used to dress mine in the same colour on purpose sometimes for ease of identification in a crowded place and sometimes to look cute. But it became apparent early on that DS1 would be appalled at being dressed the same as DS2.
Since I buy clothes for all of us and green suits all of us, we have sometimes been out as a family, all wearing green ....Blush, but not on purpose.

I don't like it when we clash though .....

princessx2 · 15/12/2010 21:40

I don't do this with my two girls and don't like it. My mum did it to me and my older sister and I hated it! My mum thinks I should though, but she has been warned not to buy them the same!
