Teething - Help!!!

My daughter is four months old and starting to cut her first teeth, she's angry when she wants something to bite on and angry when she does because it doesn't help. I've tried gum gels which just slide around my fingers with all the drool she's producing and don't help at all and I've given her Calpol when it's really bad but don't want to do that too often. Anyone got any hits and tips to help her? Any recommendations for teethers or toys that are satisfying?

Got no hints or help i'm afraid, but might sound a stupid question, but how do you know she's getting her first tooth?? Can you see it? I think ds is getting his first tooth, but not sure. He's forever dribbling, and sooo bloody moody at the moment i feel like throwing him out the window!

no ideas i am afraid but fwiw my ds has been showing signs of teething for about 2 months now!

constant dribbling, chewing EVERYTHING, red cheeks... the lot! and no teeth

When she cries and her mouth is wide open I can see the outlines of teeth in her gums!!! Top and bottom. It's really weird. She's been showing symptoms of teething for about 2 months aswell, very grumpy last thing before bed but so far not waking at night, fingers crossed that will continue! The best thing I've given her so far is a peeled raw carrot but she gets over enthusiastic and shoves it down her throat if I'm not constantly holding it and her and watching!

Babies & children seem to be teething for some time before you see anything for their labours. My dd, now 2, is teething with her last 4 teeth. There is nothing showing yet, but I can feel the teeth underneath the gum.

Calpol & calprofen can be given 4 hourly, but should it be really bad, like when the tooth is piercing the skin, you can give them alternate, 2 hours apart if you feel it necessary. (please check labels for age suitability before doing so)

I used water filled teethers with DD & sometimes even put them in the freezer, the cold will help to temporeraly (sp) numb the gum & sooth it. Offer cold (pre-boiled) water & if she eats solids, fromage frais or anything out of the fridge (again to sooth soreness).

Keep an eye on her bum, as some babies tend to get bad nappy rash when they teethe. I have worked as a dental nurse for 15 years prior to having DD & all the dentists I worked for said there was no connection between teething & nappyrash. My DD only ever got nappy rash when teething, so I beg to differ! (their system seems to get more acidic, which in turns burns the bottom) If she starts to look sore apply your usual barrier cream & keep offering water to keep her system clear.

Offer her lots of soft toys to handle, that will stand up to being put in the mouth. My DD now chews on a dummy as her teething rings won't get that far back!

Good Luck, it is hard, but they come thru it, ofetn better than we do!
