Babies & children seem to be teething for some time before you see anything for their labours. My dd, now 2, is teething with her last 4 teeth. There is nothing showing yet, but I can feel the teeth underneath the gum.
Calpol & calprofen can be given 4 hourly, but should it be really bad, like when the tooth is piercing the skin, you can give them alternate, 2 hours apart if you feel it necessary. (please check labels for age suitability before doing so)
I used water filled teethers with DD & sometimes even put them in the freezer, the cold will help to temporeraly (sp) numb the gum & sooth it. Offer cold (pre-boiled) water & if she eats solids, fromage frais or anything out of the fridge (again to sooth soreness).
Keep an eye on her bum, as some babies tend to get bad nappy rash when they teethe. I have worked as a dental nurse for 15 years prior to having DD & all the dentists I worked for said there was no connection between teething & nappyrash. My DD only ever got nappy rash when teething, so I beg to differ! (their system seems to get more acidic, which in turns burns the bottom) If she starts to look sore apply your usual barrier cream & keep offering water to keep her system clear.
Offer her lots of soft toys to handle, that will stand up to being put in the mouth. My DD now chews on a dummy as her teething rings won't get that far back!
Good Luck, it is hard, but they come thru it, ofetn better than we do!
